A fellow Traveler cruising by
Greetings Gorillas,
Let me share a little about myself. I began smoking cigars in 1981 when I was active duty in the Army stationed in Germany. Several of us were going to a annual ball at the Officers Club and we had all talked about how nice it would be to smoke a cigar during the event. We piled into a car and went downtown to a local cigar shop in Schweinfurt Germany and looking back on the occasion, it must have been quite funny to see a car load of young guys stumbling around the cigar shop not knowing a thing about cigars other than just wanting something that looked good and impressive. With the assistance of the Tobacconist, we selected Montecristo No. 2s for our pleasure. We were told, that they were they No.1 selling cigar around the world and we really had no clue as to why. Long story short, we all fired up our cigars during the ball and each of us enjoyed them, some of us more so than others, but for me, it was a paradigm shift in my belief system. I knew from that moment forward that I was a student wanting to learn more about everything concerning cigars. I was hooked, lock, stock and barrel. Little did I know at that time that I was fortunate to have been introduced to the Habanos leaf. For many years, that was all I would smoke, because that was what was available to me whenever I went to a tobacconist. For over 10 years, all the cigars I smoked were Cuban, and then I returned to live in the USA. While I continued to want quality cigars, I was very disappointed to learn that the cigars I had been smoking all these years were not available here. I initially slowed down my consumption while exploring the different cigars available here, but I worked through the different brands and tried just about everything out there and found a few that I enjoyed, many were quite a disgrace to mankind and should never have been rolled into a cigar in my humble opinion. Trial and error, that way, I knew what I enjoyed and what I did not. I still feel comfortable walking into any cigar shop and can with a fair amount of accuracy tell someone what the cigars will taste like, body and strength they will have is because I have smoked the majority of the brands out there, and I am passionate about this hobby. Over the years, I have gained a little knowledge available to me now and hope to share that with others that have a passion for cigars and the enjoyment that they can bring into our lives. I participate on many different cigar boards around the Internet. Many of you know me, and I will now have an opportunity to get to know many others that I have not yet had the chance to meet.
