History: I smoked cigarettes for almost 10 years. I never liked the smell or taste. Peer pressure got me started (wife) and hooked
I succesfully quit 3 years ago.My "Cigar" History until recently: I'd smoke the Swisher Sweets and convenience store smokes (Presidentes? I forget the name.) over the years whenever non-cigarette people wanted to smoke. I really disliked "cigars" because I was used to inhaling cigarettes and it wasn't a pleasant experience when I'd forget to not inhale. Recent Cigar history: My brother moved back to my side of town and he's an avid cigar enthusiast. I'd take him up on his offer of a cigar after dinner. Current Cigar History: I was looking for LCDs for my PC and ran across the "First Class Humidor Sampler" from Cigars International. I asked my brother about it and it took him no time to convince me to jump in on the deal. So, here I am. I have smoked 2 of the 8 cigars I received.. Cigar smoking on my own has not been an easy learning experience, but it's been fun so far. I have succesfully kicked the inhaling habit I used to have. I picked up some small wooden matches at the grocery store on the day the cigars arrived. So far it's taken me about 2 minutes and 6 matches to have a lit cigar so far These matches must be made of gunpowder, the flame reaches my finger tips really fast. Long enough to light a cigarette back in the day for sure...If I don't get a lighter soon I'll at least get longer matches. When I did cigarettes I would not breathe in or out through my nose. I really hated the smell and taste. During the smoking of these first 2 cigars of mine that I randomly picked from my set of 8 (5 Vegas and Gurkha) I have started to actually SMELL and TASTE what I am smoking. It took some effort to force myself to break old habits. I am starting to really enjoy smoking vs. smoking as a habit! I have thought of spending some money on humidors/coolerdors/boxes of cigars... I am convincing myself that this is something that I will enjoy doing along with my other hobbies. I have restrained myself so far. My brother will be giving me a few of his cigars to try as I decide for myself what I enjoy. In the next few months I am sure I'll form a positive opinion on what I really like and dislike. I look forward to really experiencing what is out there! Sorry for the long rant, I got caught up on the moment. I have learned a lot already by reading random posts on these boards. I am learning by osmosis ![]() |
