new smoker

Hey guys (and ladies?). I just smoked my first cigar today (not counting the Phillies blunt I tried once ) and I thought I'd look for a place to talk about it. It was a La Flor Dominicana 2000 series #2. Whatever that means? Anyway, it was great. Good taste and all...to my inexperienced buds. Also, any suggestions for what else I should try? I'm a college student so I can't afford those super expensive cigars, and probably only two per week anyway.

So I guess the question is, what should I be looking for?

Thanks in advance.

Re: new smoker

Welcome to the Jungle one eye. There are a ton of good inexpensive cigars around. If you get a chance search the forums, and you'll see a lot of suggestions. If you liked the La Flor...and for athat matter even if you didn't, I would try the standard Padron line.

Re: new smoker

Welcome aboard! I would recommend a site like Dukecity Cigars and order one of their samplers. You will get a variety of cigars at reasonable prices.

If you don't want to do that, just go down to your local tobacconist and see what is on sale. Sometimes you will get a winner!

But welcome to the wonderful club of cigar smoking, the only thing better than the smokes are the people!

Welcome to the Jungle! PDS' suggestion is a good one. The Padron's come in many sizes, the price is reasonable, and they're good!

Re: new smoker

Thanks for the welcomes guys. Seems like a really friendly site. I ended up going back to the tobacconist and buying one of his cigars that he rolls. He said it's a good one to smoke if you're a beginner...pretty mild and all. I'll probably smoke it saturday to see how I like it. I also ordered a sampler from Famous Smoke that includes:

2 Cohiba Robusto
1 Creme de Jamaica Robusto
1 Excalibur Epicure
1 La Gloria Cubana Wavell
1 Macanudo Hyde Park
1 Partagas Robusto
1 Rafael Gonzalez Robusto
1 Sancho Panza Robusto

It's some thing they offer for new customers, so it was $20, so I figured I couldn't go wrong because I had at least heard of most of the brands. What do you guys think? Good choice?

Re: new smoker

Welcome to the Jungle Cyclops. I always make sure keep some LGC wavells(m) in my humi and I do enjoy an Excalibur Epicure every now and then. As far as the rest of those, I've never had the pleasure of smoking one so I couldn't tell ya anything about them.

Re: new smoker

Thanks for the welcome. It sounds like a good deal then. I have a friend that's coming up here (Boston) from Rhode Island pretty soon. I've only known him over the internet from another forum, but we're going to get together and talk over some cigars. His stick of choice is a Garcia y Vega, so I told him he'd have to let me buy him a decent smoke. I figured that's a good way to meet a friend, especially when he smokes corner store cigars!

That's good to hear. I'd like to hang on to those.
