Re: Whats the story behind everyones member name?

Another great thread...

When I first went online about 8 years ago (AOL 2.0, I think) I had been at the same job (Deputy Sheriff) for about 10 years. I was getting really fed-up with locking up the same people for getting drunk and fighting every weekend, arresting the same folks for passing bad checks, and arresting the same people over and over for domestic assault, only to have their spouse go to court and try to have the charges dropped the next week. I really felt like I was spinning my wheels. So when I signed up for AOL and needed to pick a screen name, the "Jousting Windmills" analogy seemed VERY appropriate and I adopted Quixote as my handle. (I was not smoking cigars at the time, so any Sancho Panza reference is coincidental. GREAT cigars, though.)

I switched departments a year or two later and became a K-9 handler (And a VERY happy Po-lice officer.) I took up my dog's name as my s/n after he retired. Unfortunately, his name, "Nero," was already taken here at CS (We know how THAT turned out!) so I resurrected "Quixote."

Re: Whats the story behind everyones member name?

I usually go with something that identifies me as the avid Florida Gator fan that I am. However, apparently not everyone feels as positively about the Gators as I do. I received several lashings from "Gator Haters" on other sites, so I decided to go with something a little different and less objectionable to others.

The G - obviously for Gators and I threw man in there because I like the reference. With that said......Go Gators! 2 weeks until kickoff.

I love Lake City and would love to live there! (Don't know what I would do there, but what a beautiful area!) When did you live there and what did you do there? Uncompahgre is a great climb - much easier than it looks - and it rewards you with a commanding view of the San Juans. The summit gives way to a shear 1400 foot drop, so it really is quite cool!

Re: Whats the story behind everyones member name?

i use to post on a ton of Fantasy Football websites/forums (still do), and i went by "Im-Ho-Tep". i'm a classic horror movie fan and love that movie, and would love to study egyptian culture/history.

the guys got sick of typing my name and just shortened it to "IHT". some of the sites don't allow "-" in usernames, so i just go by IHT now...

i even talked to an egyptian guy online way back in the late 90's in a chat room, and he explained a ton of things about the REAL Im-Ho-Tep that i didn't know about.
*designed the first pyramids
*came up with the measurement called the "CUBIT"
*was a high priest as well as a mathmatician

so, here i am, with my Boris Karloff avitar when he played the mummy, "Im-Ho-Tep".
------------

my real nickname is gumby, from the military way back when. the problem is, there are many guys who are called "gumby". there's one on CW who's very well known, and he posts cigar reviews the same places i do, so i don't go by "gumby" anywhere unless it's in person and i know them well.

I cannot reveal the source of my name.

I do however wish I had more creativity.

And would follow my own advice.

Re: Whats the story behind everyones member name?

I met this guy at an odd place and we were sitting in a smoking area. I just sat there in somekind of comfy chair and he pulled out a cigar. It was a Punch. (Not the cuban one, the danish one a dry machinemade cheap crap-cigar.) He asked me if I wanted one and I did. We started to smoke our cigars and we found out that we shared a similar intrest: smoking cigars. So we started to meet at his place and smoke cigars. As earlier told it was very cheap cigars we smoked. To be fair: the cheapest ones we could find. We realised that what we were doing wasnt very common in the area, that is smoking cigar, not where we lived and probably not in Sweden either at least at those quantities we smoked 5-15 cigars a day. So we understood that we were "kings" in our "game". Cigarkings in other words.

And one day when I got to surf on the internet I searched for the biggest tobacco store in Scandinavia, Brobergs, which I had ofcourse visited before, and started to search for cubancigars. I found the "El Rey del Mundo"-brand and learned that it meant "The king of the world". After that I told my buddy the story about El Rey del Mundo and I started to call myself that instead of Cigarking.

End of story.
