For example you might say:

1) climate/rain fall
2) inherent knowledge embedded in the ISOM cigar making business
3) soil/mineral content
4) quality control
5) Harvesting/ageing guiedlines

PS: [SIZE=3]This one will be short ----- varnished vs. non-varnished, what's the difference?

Are you referring to the box or what is in it?

Re: Ask the Silverback

Varnished come in varnished boxes, non-varnished in non-varnished. It changes the amount of air that enters the box through the wood as I understand it, thus altering the aging process.

In the Partagas 898 versions, for example, the blends and sizes of the cigars are actually different as well.

i am no silverback, but one thing i'd add to everyone's response to this question is that you also save a little bit of space by pulling the cello off. i've got a 50-ct and am bursting at the seams....so i started pullin off the cello and automagically i was able to fit those 3 or 4 homeless cigars...

Not sure it is posts. Might be time. Might be a combination of both plus other things. PDS operates in mysterious ways. It's one of the cool things about the site. Different things become available to you as time and other things go on.

Since the weather is getting warmer, How do you bring down the temperature of your humidor/tupperdor/coolerdor? I don't have any problems maintaining proper RH (humi beads), but the temperature fluctuates from day to day to cause me concern. I thought about making distill water ice cubes, but the ecology of my humidor will melt it in minutes (global warming in my humi? ).

Does the Cigar Oasis/Plus/2 offer temperature control also?

Thanks
Not as of the last time I bought them.

The cello question earlier I have a slightly different take on. If you are buying and smoking fairly rapidly after purchase it might be a good idea to take them out of the cello. Many are over or under humidified at vendors or stores and might not normalize in your humi by the time you smoke them. If you are in it for the long run... you choose. The flavor leakage argument vs quicker aging thru airflow.

Thanks!
Scott, one more train of thought here is,wrapper damage. The cello will protect it from damage...

Re: Ask the Silverback

I'm waiting for my first ever online purchases to arrive. I know the temptation to chain smoke them out of the box is going to be intense but I will resist. How long should I put them in the humi (let them rest as I've heard it) before I have one?

Kevin

I like to leave mine in for at least two weeks, but I tend to wait even longer. I thin thread of reasoning is to allow them to acclimate to my humi environment and to recover from the trip. That trip may be a little more challenging depending on the time of year it takes place. My suggestion is to plan far enough ahead that you are not so tempted by the new arrivals that you cannot resist waiting.
