I am wondering how many newbs are true newbs.

With all the newbs coming on board at CS, I am wondering how many are truly new newbs. Totally new to cigars. A newb that has some homemade humidor, Tupperdor, ziploc with floral foam, whatever. How many have yet to buy a Humidor? How many have just bought their first fiver, stick, whatever. Tell me your story. Tell me how you even came to be interested. Show me pics of your current Humidification means/storage. I just want to see how many started like me when I was in college the first time (1991). Do not be ashamed. This is one thread where you should be proud of minimalism and ruffing it.

Look forward to meeting you.

Re: I am wondering how many newbs are true newbs.

Well, Tim I started about 3 months ago, with a 5 stick assortment recommended by a local B&M, after my wife suggested that perhaps I would enjoy a cigar, since I had successfully stopped smoking cigarettes for 2 weeks. Had the baggie and the assortment a very short time, when I found a cheapo humi at another B&M for 25.00, I read posts about how I would need a larger one, and I did not believe that would be the case. Now, I have my cheapo, and a cooler pretty well stocked, thanks to B&M/CB and a really nice father's day! Got a Don Carlos 30 year Anniv Box, and Opus X for the big day, added some Oliva Speical S, RP Sungrowns and 1990/1992's Indian Tabacs, and misc others. Hope you like em! I sure do.

Looks like I left the lid open too long on the Humi, it was at 65% when I started taking pics. OOPs.

Re: I am wondering how many newbs are true newbs.

^^^ That does not look like a newbie set up to me!

I have a small humi. Bought a cigar back in December on a whim, don't even remember what kind. Smoked, thought it was decent but nothing big.

Went to my current B&M, told them I was new and needed a suggestion. They offered up a Punch Gran Puro Libertad, done deal.

Did the plastic baggy method for about a month or so, buy a couple gars a week, leave them in the little baggies. Then in February I pulled the trigger. Bought a Capri from Famous, along with some 5'ers, HDM, Onyx, Punch, H.Upmanns.

Now I have bought my first two boxes, digital hygro, beads, and I need a bigger humi!!

When I joined, I was well on my way down the slope...I started smoking seven years ago and have had humidors for at least six of those years...started the whole aging thing in 2004...started working in a B&M in 2006...it only gets worse from there....except the joining CS part....

Re: I am wondering how many newbs are true newbs.

I prob. fall into the new newbie category... I started with my first 'real' cigars nearly a year ago when a friend handed me one while watching the 4th of July fireworks. It took me until christmas to get my first humi & until then I basically bought singles when I wanted to smoke. My first humi was one of the Holt's Savoy $20 deals running back in Feb & I duly heeded the CS gorillas advice & bought 2 right off the bat! They are still up and running (now with humidifiers upgraded with beads), but I house most of my 'collection' in a small coolerdor. As it has been with many, my slope was pretty steep & very slippery... Many generous people here at CS have gone above & beyond to open my eyes to this great hobsession of ours & it continues to be a fun ride!

Re: I am wondering how many newbs are true newbs.

I have only recently begun smoking. Reading through these threads I hear about stories of cooleradors, and tupperadors. I have none. I grab a stick when I feel like smoking. I am actually looking forward to sliding down the slope. Most of the acronyms that are used in these threads and other lingo I have no idea what is being said. I find myself going back to the glossary quite often!

Re: I am wondering how many newbs are true newbs.

Definitely a new newb here. I got interested a month or so and visited a B&M about 90 miles from where I live. (Live in veryrural Illinois) From his suggestion I picked up 6 or so sticks. Baggied it for a month, then bought a 50 capacity humi on Cbid. Over the last few weeks have gotten a couple 5 ers and just got involved in first trade. Picture of humidor and my sticks below.

Re: I am wondering how many newbs are true newbs.

I had a cigar given to me last November (Onyx reserve mini belicoso). The same man then gifted me a humidor. Since then I have bought a couple 20 mazos and some 5ers from cbid. I have traded off almost all of my stock for what you see below on CS in the short time I have been here. I am close to replinishing my stock (looking over the edge) then it's on like donkey kong.

It's no ziplock baggie, of course that's what I started with. But I have come a long way in a few months and look forward to going even further.
