I had one of these at the Town & Country Cigar Warehouse while sitting around and watching the big screen TV and later walking around the store and in their humidor looking. I had 3 more as the day progressed and each one was a pleasure to smoke. This, not being a flavored cigar, has a prelight scent that is very different from most other cigars, it's fruity and there's a hint of chocolate as well as something else neither my wife nor I could identify, but it was pleasant. Yeah, I got my wife to smell a cigar, which for me was an accomplishment considering she likes nothing about them.
The overall appearance is a bit rough often with a few medium sized veins and the cap was somewhat uneven and odd in appearance, but clipped nicely even with my "el cheapo deluxe" cutter. The construction is good quality, and the roll is firm yet yields well to light pinches, not at all fragile. After toasting the foot and lighting it up, the initial taste is quite average, it takes this one about a half to three quarters of an inch to get a good sample of the taste. For me, quite often I don't like the flavor of this initial period, but with this cigar it was not at all unpleasant. The flavor is both mild and good, a tad sweet with tastes matching some of the previously mentioned prelight scents less the fruitiness and is never harsh. Having smoked four of these prior to this one, I know the flavor is going to be consistent to the last inch. The taste after draws as well as the aftertaste of the whole cigar leaves me wanting more. This stick offers a plentiful amount of creamy smoke for each draw. The ash produced is mostly gray with some black peeking out from under the rather flaky texture and only holds to an inch or so in length. During the last two to three inches, the firmness is replaced by warm spongy elasticity, but still holds up well to handling. I don't keep my cigars in my mouth other than when drawing on them, so this quality could vary based upon your smoking style preference. I prefer to let them rest in the ashtray, especially when they get this short. I find this helps prevent them from getting hot as well helping to create a more enjoyable longer lasting smoking experience. I started smoking this one at 8:15 AM and laid her to rest at 9:44 AM, but I was on my laptop at the time and the cigar with a large mug of strong, but sweetened coffee with cream. I NEVER "put out" a cigar I've enjoyed, but rather opt to let them die with dignity. Although it may not render the same smoking experience, since Taboo credits some of the flavor characteristics to the wrapper leaf, a sungrown from the world-renowned tobacco region of Equador, I would like to see them offer a maduro of equal quality and affordability. The regular price is $29.99 per bundle, but I picked these up for the sale price of $19.99. I've had several brands costing two to three times more far less than these. I'd gladly pay the full price and will be going back for more of these for everyday smokes. I'd recommend these to those who are looking for a mild and good quality inexpensive cigar. Taboo gets a double thumbs up from me on this one!

You're most welcome! I've got a Twist to try/review and a "Mario Special", at least I think that was the name, I PM'd Rob to ask so I can be sure. I know it was Mario something.
But, I want to let them both rest, the twist for a week or two, the other for one month minimum. They were out of stock on the Special Forces, or I'd have picked up one or two of them as well.

Re: Review Taboo Factory Value Blend #1 6" X 48
Looks like there was a big Taboo thread recently (which I missed because it's not a forum I typically visit). Anyway, I'm in your neck of the woods and have also gotten my Taboos from Town and Country in North Richland Hills. Real helpful people those guys are....walk into their humidor and it's just a matter of time before they grab you and lead you to the Taboo section. Last time I was there I was looking for some Camacho Corojos.....they didn't have any but I was staring at some Taboos in two shakes.
Their cheesy female skin campaign I think detracts from a pretty good tasting lineup. I've have five I think and enjoyed each one. Sometimes though I'm not crazy about sparking big ring/big cigars and that's all they had when I had mine several months ago (actually they were gifted to me and I have visited T&C since). I know I didn't have the one you reviewed here. |

Re: Review Taboo Factory Value Blend #1 6" X 48
I have never tired them but are the "Value Blend" long filler or mixed, sandwich etc.? From your post according to the description, flaky ash makes me think short, I am just wondering as they don't state it on the website. Always looking for the best cigar I can get at a VERY low price for giveaways "yard gars" and such. From your review it looks like it might be one

Their web site home page http://www.taboocigars.com/main.sc states "Taboo Cigars are Long Filler, Cuban Seed, Cuban Blended for the Aficionado!" To me, this would mean it applies to the entire line, but I'd have to ask to be certain. FWIW, my best friend went with me when I picked these up. He smoked one later that night while we were drinking beer and playing pool. He said it had good flavor and had no complaints, but added that he probably would not purchase any. He also said that this was because he only smokes once a week and can afford much higher priced cigars. He likes all the Padron line, Pirates Gold and most of the Indian Tobacco Co. cigars he got in a CI Super Fuerte sampler he purchased. If cost was not a major factor for me, I doubt I would have even tried these and most likely would have opted for a bundle of the Twists or Special Forces had they been in stock. Or heck, maybe a box of Padron Anniversary 26 or 64. But for me, the cost is very important, so I'm quite thankful when I find what I consider to be a good inexpensive cigar.

nozero, Thanks for the review! Pleasure meeting you and Bryan! And it looks like after reading this there needs to be a correction to the web site! All Taboo are long filler, except the Value Blend! oops! I did not have the Value Blend on the site when we put the statement up "All Taboo Cigars are long filler............" Thanks for asking that question on here! I will somehow correct that right NOW! I will leave the Sale on this cigar up for atleast two more weeks! For the money, it is a great cigar as nozero says it is! My local Customers have enjoyed it! My personal favorite is the Twist and the Special Forces. I also really enjoy the spice that the Special Forces give the Twist after letting them age together for about a month or so in my travel humidor! VERY VERY Nice with the Special Forces spicing them up! I had a Customer discover that a few months ago! I tried it and it added a "twist" to the Twist! ha He now buys about five Special Forces just to "spice up" his Twist! Interesting.........It makes me want to twist the SF maduro wrapper with something.........? I have some ideas.........I will go to work on that! Very Good! Thanks to all that read this Rob ![]() |

Rob,
I've been reading this and was interested in picking up the value blend special. It seems that $10 shipping on a $20 bundle kills the deal. Is there any reduced shipping you have there? Maybe a CS only special, huh? ![]() |

Re: Review Taboo Factory Value Blend #1 6" X 48
I smoked another one of these while having my morning coffee and enjoyed it very much. So far I've smoked well over 10 of them in all and only had a less than pleasing experience with one so far.

I just wanted to clarify my comment, as a lot of people describe cigars as "Giveaways" being cigars they bring only to give out not to smoke them self. I personally do not buy low priced cigars on purpose to give away. I would think most who do can afford to buy higher quality and their give aways might be a good smoke to me, LoL. I don't have the money so I give away cigars that are low priced but still are good. (at least to me) The worst i would give away would be those I got to try maybe a deal or something and did not like them and in that case I would state that to the give-e. LOL. I don't give away dog rockets unless someone likes them for one reason or another. I personally cannot give away $20 worth of smokes, although I love to hang out with those who can, who wouldn't, LoL. Sorry for the over explanation. |
