Review – Connecticut by Rocky Patel

Thought I would take a stab at my first review:

Cigar: Connecticut by Rocky Patel
Size: toro
Smoke time: 1 ½ hours
Drink: green tea with mixed berry

I typically enjoy my cigars around 9pm, after the kids have gone to bed. Since I had the house to myself this afternoon, I thought I would enjoy the afternoon on the deck. I didn’t plan on writing a review until I had already lit the cigar. So, I have no before picture to post.

I purchased a 5 pack of these last month from c-bid. The overall construction was good, with the exception of a few caps. I noticed that two of the five had a sloppy looking cap. It almost looked as if I had assembled it. Regardless, it cut fine without any unraveling. Pre-light scent was pleasant.

First Third: PIC #1
A very smooth smoke ensued after lighting. The draw was just right, with tons of billowing smoke clouds. This was packed with flavor. I wouldn’t call it toasty. It was more of a nutty taste. Made you smack your lips and ask for more! The aroma coming from the head of the cigar was excellent. Much like a roasted nut scent. It was as enjoyable as the flavors. The ash was firm, and held for a little more than an inch and a half before falling off. Burn was even, with a fair amount of resting smoke.

Second Third: PIC#2, PIC#3
Supposing I was not as observant at the beginning, I noticed some dark filler while looking into the head. This surprised me, as I assumed that the entire cigar would have light colored tobacco. Other than that, not a lot has changed. I’m really enjoying this cigar! The flavor profile is still the same. As is the generous clouds of smoke and even burn. The second ash also dropped right around an inch and a half. Aroma is still fantastic.

Final Third: PIC#4, #5, #6 (on 2nd post)
Something changed, but not sure what the cause is. Although the flavor is still consistent, it seems to have gotten a little stronger. Not overly strong, just a little more than the first two-thirds. Perhaps this is just my palette being hit with the same flavor, time and again? This is still very enjoyable, with the flavor amped up a small amount. The cigar has formed several small ripples near the burn line. It almost looks wet. At this point, it has also begun to burn hot near the end. Shortly after the ripple, the cigar went out and required one relight. After a relight I rarely experience the same flavorful taste; however, this was not the case with this cigar. Flavor is still there! I finished the cigar with an inch and a quarter remaining. It was flavorful throughout, without any hint of harshness or bitterness.

This being my first review, I will not try to rate it with a number. I will say that it was a very good cigar with plenty of nutty flavor. A nice smoke, worthy of a five pack in the humidor.

I enjoy these a lot. They are yet more proof that a mild cigar needn't be a boring cigar. Thanks for the review.

Exactly. I like them in the morning with coffee. Good starter smoke.

I burned one of these RP Connecticuts last night. If I wrote a review, I think it would be similar, if not exactly like yours. Very mild but tons of nutty taste. I loved it. The stick got stronger for me after about 2/3. The only downside to this cigar was the metallic taste that seemed to linger after about 1/4. It was faint, but consistent, never increasing nor fading. I will definitely be looking forward to my next round with this smoke.
