God of Fire Don Carlito Robusto - 2005 Review
I often find myself really attracted to the special offering cigars, the Partagas 160, the PAM 40th, the Camacho Liberty, etc. Its mostly because of their rather exclusive nature, only available in limited quantities and I hate the idea that I’ll miss out on a really good thing. I’d put the GOF on my list long ago because Signature Cigars in MD had a ton of them and I figured why not try it. But I have, so far, been greatly disappointed by the Fuente line. Most of them it appears I don’t like with the exception being Anejos and Don Carlos (so far, have 2-3 more to try tho). Because of that I’d decided I didn’t really need a GOF especially at $30 a stick.
Fast forward to yesterday when I’m actually in Signature smoking a few stogies and kicking back watching a redskins game with Dave. I personally am neither a big Redskins fan nor a fan of football in general, preferring basketball to football. But it was a great game due to the couple of cigars I hade (Boli PC, Oliva Master Blend 3 and Trinidad). Before leaving I couldn’t help myself I picked up a GOF Don Carlito even tho the sales man compared it to an Opus X which is one of my least favorite cigars (at least young). Later that night I pulled it from its cello and the banding on the stick is just gorgeously done, the stick is a nice even brown, barely veined and beautiful. The prelit draw is one of smooth sweet tobaccos, I remember thinking if this is how my Opus are gonna taste in 2 years I’m glad I’m sitting on a couple of boxes for the long haul. It takes easily to flame and the first tastes are light wood and sweet tobacco. The smoke is extra smooth and thick and luxurious. There also seem to be notes of leather mixed in and these three flavors ebb and flow through out the stick. The smoke is nice and white and for about 2/3rds the stick burns razor straight. In the last 3rd it went out 2-3 times which really let my the wind out of my sales. This stick was well on its way to a 10 for me but as soon as I had to baby-sit it too conclusion Appearance – 10Construction – 9Flavor – 9Value – 8Overall Experience -8Overall Grade – 8.8Final Verdict – An extremely enjoyable cigar except for the small amount of babysitting it required. I don’t know that I’d go in search of another but I definitely enjoyed the one I had.

Craving GOF

Re: God of Fire Don Carlito Robusto - 2005
Nice review.
I had my first GOF a few weeks ago. It was also a 2005. I liked the cigar and would never turn one down if it was offered, but, I prefer the Opus X over the GOF.

Re: God of Fire Don Carlito Robusto - 2005
I just smoked one of these too and I loved it. I do not normally like the Opus, but the Forbidden was much better IMHO. Now, if you are able to get your hands on a Casa Fuente (EXclusively sold only at an AF store) I thought they were much better for half of the price of an Opus. I still like the Anejos better then all. Great review and I bet those GOFs are going to be great in a few years

Nice review. I've seen a lot of the GOF from fellow BOTL here but never tried one. Like most B&M mine doesnt carry them.
