El Centurion Review

Forgive my rookie review skills, but I will try and get my opinion across.....w/ no pics. Sorry pervs, not a photoshop expert either.

Picked up a guerrero for 14.99 (I know, I know). First thing I noticed was the difference in weight and the looseness of the filler, compared to other pepin blends. Wrapper did have more of that Cubanesque look to it though.

Prelight- What threw me off is I really didn't notice any aroma from the stick. I got curious and clipped with my Palio.

Light- No problems there. First few puffs seemed very mild, very creamy. I almost was dissapointed as I am not into pepins for the smooth creamy profile. After the 1st inch I realized that was not the case. this is just a VERY smooth blend, probably aged well.

After this got going the spice started to pick up, but never turned into a bomb, like the blues or the SC gets. The flavor kept changing from a bready cream back to the typical Pepin spice and cinnamon, but always stayed mellow. It confused my palate, but kept me interested due to the constant flavor changes.

This smoke never really got its kick, but the flavor was very interesting. that is about all I can say at this time. I may have to try more to decide just how good these smokes are.

Construction-6- Draw was lighter than I like, but didn't burn hot. Just wasn't the craftsmanship I was expecting
Flavor-8- Not one bad flavor in this. Just never got to knocking my socks off, but the changes kept me interested. Not a boring smoke for sure
Finish-9- Flavor stayed a good while after smoking
Value-4- 14.99 is just too much to pay for a smoke that still has me on the fence about.

Overall-7- the price is really the reason for this score, as I enjoyed the smoke, but don't know if it is as good as the JJ or the Blue. Definetly outdone by the San Cristobal. I will try more if I can find a better price, but not worth anything above 12 dollars.

Thank you for listening to my attempt at reviewing a cigar that probably could describe itself better than me.

Re: El Centurion

That is EXACTLY how I felt about it.

It's a decent $5 - $8 stick. Too bad it costs much more.

Excellent review... RG for you!

Re: El Centurion

Thanks for the review. I am curious about these as I am about all of Pepin's smokes. I am a fan but, I can wait to try these; maybe they will come down in price a bit. I am curious but, not $14.00 worth of curious.

Re: El Centurion

I picked a couple up a few weeks ago.

I think I paid about 10 or 11 bucks for the robusto size.

Thanks for the review, I'm going to let them sit awhile longer.

Re: El Centurion

I still have one courtesy of tedrodgerscpa and I've been waiting for a somewhat speacial occassion to torch it. If no time soon, I'm camping the week of Thanksgiving and it would meet it's end on the banks of the Big Pee Dee River.

Thanks for the review.

Re: El Centurion

I was not impressed with this cigar. I only had one but the flavor and kick just wasn't there.

Re: El Centurion

I have had but one of these, and that is hardly a sufficient sample, but that one was very tasty. And no, it didn't have a kick, but then I don't want all my cigars to knock me around.

Hell, if kick is desired, one can always smoke a cigar with ligero filler, ligero binder and a ligero wrapper........

Different strokes for different folks, eh, what??

Re: El Centurion

I picked two of these up last week. Haven't tried them yet, but your review makes it sound like my kind of stick. I prefer cigars that don't try to kill me with nicotine. Those take so much prep (big meal, etc.) Thanks for the review!

Re: El Centurion

I need to sample another. I liked the stick and the flavor was good. I hope I am on when I say this, but it was real bready if I nailed the flavor down. Flavor just wasn't very pronounced. Worth trying again....not worth the box price as there are others that are less that would probably do the same job. I just can't name any right now.

I picked up a fiver from Cbid this week. Letting them rest a few more days before trying them out.

Re: El Centurion

Had this recommended to me by the humidor manager at a cigar bar in Boston. I generally like Pepin's sticks, so I took a shot and this one didn't disappoint.

* Great aroma on the pre-light draw

* Stick burned evenly and true for the first 2/3, then needed a minor touch up

* Nice peppery flavors during the initial draws. Settled down into a deceptively full bodied smoke. I say deceptive because I wasn't sensing that this stick was all that strong until I tried to stand and got a little wobbly legged.

* The last third of this cigar kicked my butt. It was powerful but never acrid. Smelled delicious throughout. Great after taste.

I would definitely pick up this stick again. I'm finding I really like almost all of Pepin's lines.
