PaulHag vs Opus X Round 4 Review
This was my 4th time smoking the infamous Opus X:
Previous engagements: Round 1: Paul throws up Round 2: Paul gets sick and must lay down for multiple hours Round 3: Burn is completely screwed, wrapped falls completely off after 10 puffs. COMPLETELY OFF. Round 4: Smoking this thing almost seemed like punishment. Decent flavor but just too powerful and harsh for my poor palate. Nicotine buzz like smoking a carton of Marlboro reds and same sick feeling as previous tries. Maybe if these aged for like... a decade I could enjoy it more..... Probably will never find out. Conclusion: Winner by TKO ... Opus X. I will never smoke one of these again I dont think......

Paul, give the RdC a try or a DC if you can find one. You will be pleasently surprised by how "mild" an Opus can be. Whatever you do........avoid the Power Ranger aka the xXx for awhile. |

Re: PaulHag vs Opus X Round 4
That's the great thing about cigars, different strokes for different strokes. I'm not a big OpusX fan, but can understand where some folks would be. I to have found that the smaller ring guages pack the punch. That being said, if you didn't at least think the little guys were OK, you likely won't enjoy the big ones either.

Re: PaulHag vs Opus X Round 4
Well, after this thread, I got awfully curious, and decided to smoke one of these that PaulHag sent me.
Generally I love Opus X, but haven't had one for at least a year. First half inch seemed mild-medium, pretty smooth, and tasty. Second half inch was overwhelmingly sour. I can see where this would make me ill if it kept going. I decided that to avoid the sourness I would smoke really really slowly. This seemed to more or less work - the middle section was pretty good. Not as good as most Opus X I've had, but pretty tasty. Even though it was so small, this cigar was producing just vast billows of smoke. More than any other cigar I've said this about. More than a Padron 64. I was outside, but wind was still enough at times that the cloud of smoke hung in front of me and lingered so long that I had to hold my breath for uncomfortable periods of time before inhaling. In the last third, one whole side of the wrapper stopped burning. I kept going until it was clear it was only getting worse, then put it down. Overall, I would say it was only 70% as good as other Opus X. But at least it didn't kick my ass ![]() Thanks again for the smokes you sent Paul. |
