Gurkha G5 Avenger Toro Review

In another thread I saw where a few BOTL stated that Gurkha cigars were overrated. Well, here’s a cigar that may just possibly change their mind. The new Gurkha G5 Avenger. This is the father of the infamous G3.

The G5 Avenger is a full-bodied Nicaraguan puro, deeply complex and powerful. Available in a 6 x 50 Toro and 6 x 52 Torpedo.

I had the opportunity to smoke the Toro addition of this beauty. The wrapper was what one usually finds with Gurkha maduros, a work of art. It had a very dark color with hints of blue. I trimmed of the cap which came off as if it had been perforated to come off perfectly. I then toasted the foot and noticed nothing more than a wonderful tobacco fragrance. Then I got down to business.

As I fired up this beast the draw was perfect, and although strong, this is one smooth cigar. The G5 burned flawlessly; I burned down a nice 11/4 inch ash before tapping it off to reveal a cherry that was redder than a spanked baby’s ass. The G5 remained smooth for about 3 inches when I began to notice hints of spice. The taste was peppery with saffron. The cigar produced bellows of redolent smoke. I began to consider the thought that I may have just found the holy grail of the cigar world.

How anyone can believe that the maker of this cigar is overrated is beyond me. To those I can only say, “Gurk this”!

Nice review, but still not enough to warrant me buying another Gurkha.

Re: Gurkha G5 Avenger Toro

Do any of you know where I can buy these online? Or the Gurkha Status? I've torn my city apart looking for them and no one here in Richmond carries it. I'm relatively new to cigars and I quickly became a Gurkha fan especially the G3.

Thanks,
Michael

Hey thumper try here, and I saw them at cigar.com as well.
http://www.famous-smoke.com/

http://www.jrcigars.com/index.cfm?page=cigars

Jr's is usually cheaper than cigar.com, who has outragous prices.

If you ever make it down to Orlando, the Corona Club normally has them, just my two cents.

Re: Gurkha G5 Avenger Toro

Good review but I gotta say this. How many friggin lines does Gurkha have? Although in my eyes Gurkha is extremely overrated (the 2 I have had so far were DISGUSTINGLY harsh, a class regent and some perfecto I don't remember the name of and subsequently pitched) I will have to burn up the others I have sitting in my humidor and find one that I might like.
