CFB PSD4 by Altbier

I was real tempted to put this in the Habana section but thought I'd get my ass kicked by the older gorillas.

OK, the cigar I have been waiting for, like a crack addict is here. Cuba's Famous Brands PSD#4. I was fortunate enough to be gifted two of these by Rev Zack a few weeks ago when they were testing them out. All I can say is that it hits the nail on the head.

I went home and smoked a PSD4 just to be sure and the flavors on the CFB were more of an aged PSD4.

So the next day I went back and begged for another, just to be sure.

The cigars appearance is almost the same, just a touch darker than the ones I have had. The taste is right on the money. It lit easy had a great draw, and tasted like a PSD4 the whole way through.

Even if you weren't looking for that, or have never had an aged PSD4, the cigar had a great taste to it.

The cigars are sold in bundles unbanded, so there is no pretty box. But you do get a great bundle of cigars!

Clicky

I dare you to try it and do a blind taste test, you will be blown away, but your wallet won't!

Re: CFB PSD4 by Altbier

Let me guess here......
So this company makes 63 different cigars that duplicate the exact taste of the Cuban smokes listed below. Right? (I'm guessing doubtful)
And they ALL taste just like the real thing...Right? (again, doubtful...)

Or is the PSD4 the only one that "hit the nail on the head"?

Did they just "get lucky" with a blend of tobacco? (possible, but highly improbable....)

Cuba's Famous Brands-> (63 total )
Bolivar (3)
Cohiba (9)
H. Upmann
Hoyo de Monterrey (3)
Monticristo (12)
Partagas (12)
Punch (6)
Ramon Allones (3)
Romeo y Julieta (6)
Sancho Panza
Trinidad (3)
Vegas Robaina (6)

I'm sorry Altbier, no offense, really, but I too, am skeptical. Many companies have tried to make copy-cat cigars....for a long time.....and I have yet to smoke one that actually tasted the same. (Maybe your tastesbuds are different than mine, though, so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.....)

A blind taste test is needed here......(not me..however...someone more knowledgable than me....one with a more refined palate that could write a full review.)

Uniputt, PM me your addy, I'll send you a couple. I just got a bundle. I have only had a PSD4 to compare and was impressed. As for the others, Zack says thay are close. The one he just gave me was a damn good cigar, but I have no idea if it is close to the cuban style. All I have to compare is PSD4,

cheers!

OK you got me. If this was a new gorilla with 5 posts maybe I would have gone right past. $15 for a 5 pack is worth the try. If they are horrible then the brother in law gets some free sticks. Either way someone ends up happy.

I'm thinking the same thing. If it was a newbie, he'd get flamed but I've read lots of Altbier posts and I respect him. Worth a try, heck for the price it might be fun!!

Re: CFB PSD4 by Altbier

OK George ... I can officially say that I've been sucked in.

Since its not April 1, I bought a couple of singles of the PSD4 and RASS copies. Gave me an oportunity to buy some more Habanos Puros Rosados at the same time which I was going to do at the herf .. but what the hay, you have piqued my interest.

I have a couple of PSD4s and maybe a RASS left so I can do a 1-on-1 taste evaluation. I'll do that as soon as the smokes arrive.

Re: CFB PSD4 by Altbier

I smoked another one of these last night and it is a little greener than the others. The flavor was still pretty good but they get a lot better if left in the humidor a bit (as any cigar).

Cheers

Re: CFB PSD4 by Altbier

Hmm, interesting. I might give them a whirl. Even if they don't come off like the real thing, as long as they're made from decent tobacco (tho "green" suggests youth, or would you say it's "travel sick"?) it might not be too much of a financial hit. Too bad the humidor is pretty well packed right now...

Altbier, how about construction... are they put together well and consistently? I understand these things are supposed to look like "firsts". At that price, I'm expecting a pretty good cap, a solid roll, consistent draw, and very few burn issues.

I'm looking forward to what you fellas say when you do a head-to-head taste. That'll elicit some interesting observations.

Keep us posted.

Re: CFB PSD4 by Altbier

Its really hard to take this seriously, but I am definitely willing to give Altbier the benefit of the doubt (even if he does post 234.7 jokes a day and has NEVER offered me a Monte #4).

I think I'll wait for some input from (909) and the prof, but if either of them are even remotely enthusiastic, I'll be giving these a shot too...

Re: CFB PSD4 by Altbier

Mr Bundles has the order on the way. I really hope these don't work out. Humi has stayed full, I have more on my list to try. Now here comes an $80 bundle. There has to be something to an $80 bundle right?

The price kept a bundle out of my order, at least this time. Puros Habanos Rosada are a bundle that I really like and they're only 15 bucks .... can the Cuba's Famous Brands be 5 times better? Doubt it - I'm a professional skeptic.

I have tried JR's Cuban Alts Boli Coronas and although they are an OK Nicaraguan smoke, they're not much more than that.

Hmmm.....this will be interesting for sure and extraordinary if they remotely resemble the real deal. Mike has a heck of a nose for good cigars .... there isn't a single stick in his shop that I don't like.

I know what altbier meant on his first post yesterday. First thing I did this morning was check to see when these would arrive.
