Post CFB Montecristo No 4 by altbier

just cracked open another bundle of cigars i bought today. this one is a clone of the montecristo 4, and since I have never had one of the original cubans, i will just review it......

Size 5 x 42

The wrapper is a beautiful medium to dark brown with a fine tooth. It has a sight resiliency to it when sqeezed, these just came in from the factory today and are very well humidified.

You can easily tell the wrapper is high quality leaf, it appears a touch thinker than most wrappers and has a beautiful quality as you can see the veins of the leaf running down the cigar.

The cigar lit easily and now that is it burned 1/5 of the way, the ash is a mixture of dark greys and light. The smoke it produces is light to medium, not very easy to get good thick smoke rings. The cigar's burn is a little faster than I expected, but I draw heavily on my cigars so this may be atypical.

The flavor of the cigar is great. I would rate it as a medium and complex. When I draw I get a very warm flavor with no harshness. as I exhale, I get kind of a smooth silky flavor to it. I probably should be having a nice bourbon with this.

Halfway through the cigar the flavor has not changed. It has stayed very consistent. I am really enjoying this cigar. As for the burn, since I have slowed down to savor it, it is burning a lot slower, more to what I expected.

ok, 1 hour later I have come to the end of this cigar. the flavor stayed the same and was excellent. I have no idea if it is like the real mc4, but it is definitly a rebuy when I run out of this bundle. at this price it is a good everyday cigar.

cheers!

I received this CFB MC4 from the beer man in a NST package. I didn't get around to smoking it until tonight (so little time, so much to burn). Although it wasn't an hour smoke for me, I think George hit the nail on the head. I was smoking in the hot sun and probably could have eased off a bit. This is one very tasty everyday smoke. The construction was excellent. Pre-light taste a little peppery.

The first 1/4" was, um..., fair, a tad tangy. After that it settled into a very consistent medium body but still fairly robust taste. I do believe the taste did change about the 1/2 way point, but only to get smoother, not necessarily different. I never regretted a single draw and had to nub it. I guess it may come sort of close to a MC4 in taste, but I didn't smoke one of those in conjunction. The ash was a solid, flaky light grey, and fell on my shirt only when it was almost 2".

Thanks Altbier. I would not hesitate to buy a bundle from Uncle Mikey. Excellent value.

I have been smoking them like candy. The ones coming in now are in need of a little rest, so buy a bundle and lay them down.

Quite a good cigar!

I'll bite ... I like PC-minuto sized cigars and frankly habanos despite their attraction are a PITA .... green customs tape, fakes ...

Just ordered a 5 pack of the Monte 5 and 4 to try them out.

I just got a 5er from Mikey yesterday, they start to die this weekend, after the good reviews from Roger Miller and George, I can't wait to taste them..

Received a five-pack of these about three weeks ago. Tried one a few days ago and agree that it's fantastic but very young. It was way too wet and had a tight draw (this though my humidor is at 65% RH). Seemed like it would need a solid three to six months to come around. Nevertheless, I'll order some more.

Take them out of the humidor for a day or two if they are that wet.

On your suggestion, took one out to try tomorrow. This is dangerous in Denver, as the humidity is usually well below 40 percent - but I'm eager to try another. I'll leave the rest in the humidor as I'm not in a rush. BTW, thanks altbier for turning me onto the CFB line. I'm pleased so far.
