Review: CI Legends: Purple Label (Greycliff)

Okay, let me be the first to say that I only had one of these, and a lot of people tend to like this brand. That being said, this was one of the worst cigars I have ever had in my life.

Pre-light smell. Tobacco, and is that ammonia? I had allergies that night so I didnt trust myself. I lit it.

First third: Whoa nelly! This thing tastes like its been dropped in ammounia, and then the cleaning lady wiped her butt on it. Primary tastes are, Ammonia, ammonia, and harsh tobacco, with a slight undercurrent of sulphurus fart.

Second third: The ammonia taste fades, just slightly. It no longer tastes like drinking ammonia, now it just tastes like huffing it. The cigar burns quickly and pops, Yielding plenty of acrid smoke throughout.

Third third, the ammonia taste disappates some more... I now taste cedar and an undernote of creme... Tastes like 80/20 milk and ammonia in a cedar bucket.

By now you guys can guess, I nub all of my cigars, but I was genuinely happy when this was through.

So did you get any hints of ammonia?

Seriously, you gave it a shot, thanks for the feedback. I have one that was gifted me...I'll watch out for the cleaning lady.

If you want to hear something funny, I was at a B+M about a month ago and the sales lady tried to tell me that those cigar were as close to ISOM as you can get in this country. Isn't funny how the person trying to make the sale always compares the cigars to ISOM.

I smoked a white label recently, was comparable to pepin black but less kick. Sorry to hear about the poor smoke. Might have been very fresh, a lot of people myself including get sticks from CI that taste like chemicals. In time they return to a normal flavor.

I won't smoke a cigar that smells like ammonia. That tells me it will be nasty and needs some time.

Sorry to hear of your bad experience... I must admit that after smoking a few of these (a couple of months ago now) I didn't notice any ammonia. It sounds like you will need to let any you still have rest for a month or two before trying them again. I found this cigar mild, but tasty. They are a little undefiled as has been my experience with most Graycliff cigars & get a little squishy towards the last inch. I also noticed that these have short/med filler as I would get pieces of tobacco in my mouth. I say give them another try... Definitely a decent cigar for the price imho

Sounds like a sick cigar to me. I had some Arturo Fuente Candela's from Famous smokes that smelled the same way. After letting them sit for a while (5-6 weeks) I lit one up and it was wonderful. Try another one and give it a fair shot.

If it stinks, back in the box it goes!

I bought a 5 pack of these and they sat in the cooler for a good 9 months or more before being smoked, I enjoyed ever one of them.

Like everyone else has said if you have any more of then give them a little R&R before smoking them I think you'll be happy with the results.

Re: Review: CI Legends: Purple Label (Greycliff)

if you'd let it sit through it's sick steamy ammonia fermentation period you would have been treated to a five dollar dog rocket

I won 5 about a year ago and they were like smoking air

I had some of these same flavors, it was a real shame for such an expensive cigar. Another thing that I noticed is that it has some poor burn.

I liked the one I tried. It was different than anything I'd had before, and interesting in a good way. It was a clean tasty smoke that I would definitely try again, if for no other reason than to try and figure out what the flavor of it was (and don't say it was ammonia).

Sorry to hear that stick didn't cut it for you.

Re: Review: CI Legends: Purple Label (Greycliff)

The only CI Legends I found pretty good are the Orange labels (D. Pepin, right?!); then again, the orange label is the only Legend I've had!

Re: Review: CI Legends: Purple Label (Greycliff)

In my opinion the CI version doesn't taste much like the rest of the actual Graycliff branded cigars, even after some rest.
