Macanudo Maduro Diplomat by Altibier Review

One of my favorite cigars is the Punch Champion, so when I swung into the expensive cigar store in Richmond to see what they had and laugh at the prices, I saw these on the shelf. So I paid $6 and took one home.

I never new Macanudo made maduros, so I thought what the hell.

It is a well constructed cigar, little to no vein, a slight hint of oil on the leaf which was a beautiful dark brown. I laid it next to a champion and they were identical size and shape. They say hand made on the band, but I am assuming hand made means hands used an automatic roller to make these.

Cigar lit easily and had a nice draw to it. I would label the flavor as medium, not a as strong a other maduros I have had (Macanudo prides themselves on not making strong cigars, so this is par for the course)

Flavor was quite good and I decided to pair it with some 20 year old Pappy Van Winkle. Quite a good combo!

It burned well and slow and held its ash all the way until I tried to type something.

then the ash fell on my keyboard and rolled off!

interesting cigar and one I will try again if I can find it at a better price.

cheers!

Great review. I had my first Mac maddy on the Macanudo Bus a few weeks ago at JR's. Pics sould be up soon at cigarworld.com. I was really surprised at how mild, if you will, that maduro is. I enjoyed it very much.

The Robust Mac is supposed to be alot stronger, never had one. I havn't seen that vitola you had, altibier, at any stores around here, but the other ones run $4-6. I've got one cooking in the humi now. May have to move it up in rotation.

Nice review Altbier

The Mac Maduros was actually what got me into maduros to start with a few years back, and the Diplomat shape got me hooked.
Coming to think of it, I have a few stowed away from a boxsplit last summer.

I think I just might need to try one to see if they have improved.

The Macanudo Maduro Diplomat is an excellent maduro smoke, and not too large a cigar to be smoked during the work day. Highly recommended if you like the flavor of a maduro. Another maduro I tried recently is the Gurkha Doble Maduro. The Gurkha has a far more pronounced flavor than the Macanudo.

Thanks for the review. I'm going to have to try one of these one day, looks like a really nice cigar, didn't have a Macanudo for a long time.
