Davidoff Diademas Fina 100th Anniversary Review

It has been a while since I last posted a review. I still review every new cigar I smoke, I capture and record them religiously but I don’t share them as much anymore. Its rare that I’m smoking something that no one else is smoking and I’ve often felt that we didn’t need 13 synonymous views on the same cigar. That said this particular stick isn’t really in wide circulation at the moment and I thought it would be nice to let one fly on it.

I’ve often said that I’m really interested in the special editions and singular release cigars. Something about a thing that will never pass this way again, or only being available for a limited times really gets my blood pumping. To a degree the collectability of a cigar is part of the hobby for me. So I was really excited to see a set of Davidoff Diademas Fina 100th Anniversary for sale on CS in the WTS section but my fumble fingered typing was just a touch to slow and I didn’t get them. However a friend of mine, N3uka did get them and generously agreed to give me one.

We met for lunch and sticks and I sat and appraised this beautiful looking perfecto. A gorgeous molasses brown stick that looks to be a US Connecticut wrapper. The stick has a very sweet smell to it, a nice cedary scent with perhaps a touch of cinnamon. It’s a bit like wandering in a forest and catching the scent of someone making a pie of some sort. Just enough to make you wonder what you smell. This unbanded beauty is long and lean with very little veining in the wrapper. Even without a band the solid construction and flawless look brings to mind a Davidoff.

A narrow clip reveals a prelight draw of woodsy flavored good tobacco. Once lit the smoke is pure, strong and white. It comes forward in buttery thick clouds. In the mouth more good tobacco flavor with bits of cedar and flecks of spice to fill up your mouth. The flavor isn’t quite complex, but Davidoff has always done an amazing job of creating consistent flavor and strength through the whole of a smoke (at least in my limited opinion). This stick is just like that;with out much variance in either its subtly flavored smoke or in its mild to medium strength. Some might prefer higher end sticks to be much more complex, however sometimes you don’t want a smorgasbord, sometimes you want a great steak. The Diademas Finas is definitely a one trick pony, but oh what a trick!

The one negative note is that even tho I gave it a sharp accurate cut and babied the stick thru the whole smoke, the wrapper still began to unravel on me. I know virtually unheard of with a Davi, but that’s the way of the world.

Appearance – 10
Construction – 9
Flavor – 9
Value – 9
Overall Experience -8
Overall Grade – 9.0

Final Verdict – An extremely enjoyable cigar except for the wrapper incident. A cigar like this (without the unraveling) makes you appreciate what this hobby is all about.

Thx for the review . I really liked the way you described the aroma of the smoke in relation to someone cooking a pie. I could almost imagine the smell myself after reading that part of the review! Too bad you had issues with the wrapper as everything else about the cigar seemed top notch.

Thanks for the review. This is one of my all time favorite cigars. Too bad they cost so much.

Its a Davidoff, it is what it is. If you find a Davi under $12 its a bit of a bargin all things considered. In fact I only underpointed this on value based on the fact that the Robusto Intenso is only $18 or so when you can still find em an dits not quite as good as that.

For me thats definately one of my favorite parts. The shame of it is for the collection to achieve its purpose you eventually have to smoke and get rid of it! If only I could have my cake and eat it too......

The other thing is really I'm just getting into the low end of collectibles. I'm really pround of my Avo 77s but I certinly couldn't spring for collectible cigars where they are $200-$300 apiece.

Is that the light step because of a lighter pocket book? I have not reached that level of collecting!! So, I am with you in that part of the jungle! My pockets still jingle so I must not be that good a collector!! Maybe I will get there someday....After I win the Lottery or PowerBall!!!

I fully agree, some cigars almost seem like a member of the family and it makes them so hard to part with....but we do.

Re: Davidoff Diademas Fina 100th Anniversary

Great review

I have smoke a few davidoffs but never the Diademas. The Davidoffs I have smoked were very tasty and those were petite coronas.

These high priced cigars are tough for me to buy because there are so many outstanding smokes under $11.

Great review
