Thumbs up Carlos Toraño - Dominican Selection - Carlos VII Review

Introduction

I stumbled onto this hidden gem in the Toraño line a couple of months ago while perusing the 5-pack offerings on CigarBid. I had been blown away by how good the Exodus 59 is, so decided to give this less costly model a try. Won the bid at the moderate price of $9.

Pre-Light Inspection

The Carlos Toraño Dominican Selection Carlos VII measures (4.7 x 52). A very good size I think. The cigar is composed of Piloto Cubano Dominican-grown filler, Mexican binder, and a beautiful brown Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper. As all my experiences with Carlos Toraño cigars have been, the construction was impeccable.

Smoking Experience

No problems with getting this stick lit. The cigar burned perfectly the entire time, never getting hot or uneven. The flavor profile was very homogeneous throughout the life of the stick. Sometimes it’s nice to have different and complex flavors appear and change, but it’s also nice to have a cigar you can depend on to always be consistent. The Carlos VII is my go to stogie for when I don’t want any surprises; when I just want a dependable, medium bodied, natural tobacco flavor profile with a wonderful toasty undertone.

Final Thoughts

How the Toraño company chose to discontinue this model is beyond my comprehension. Yes, the Exodus and other lines are great, but this cigar is quality as well.

You forgot to say these are three years old. I won a fiver for $7.00. What a fantastic cigar. Can't believe they discontinued this line.

Re: Carlos Toraño - Dominican Selection - Carlos VII

Jeff, I could have written that same review. I had almost the same exact experience. I saw them on CBid and since I like all the other Torano products, I figured it was too good of a price not to give them a shot. My only regret was that I didn't buy more. Not as full bodied as I normally like, but you said it right when you said it was dependable. Sometimes that is exactly what you need.

Nice review!

Disregard the above review and don't try to get on cigarbid , the site is closed for the day - even if it wasn't, there's nothing to see there
