La Aroma de Cuba - Corona Minor Review

Introduction

I purchased this short smoke a month ago while perusing through Holt’s cigar shop in Philadelphia. For a while now I’ve been trying to stock up on tasty smokes that require less than one hour of my time.

Pre-Light Inspection

The La Aroma de Cuba Corona Minor measures (4.5 x 44). It is just a typical corona shortened a little bit. The cigar originates from Honduras and is comprised of Cuban Seed Honduran wrapper, Honduran binder, and Honduran and Nicaraguan filler. It is a medium to full bodied smoke. The first thing I noticed about this stick was the nice dark brown oily wrapper. The wrapper was a little veiny, but well constructed. It had a nice firm feel with just the right amount of give.

Smoking Experience

It took me a little while to get the stogie burning at an optimum level, but once there, I had no further troubles. The first half inch was slightly bitter. After that, a rich full-bodied smoke emerged with just the subtlest hint of spiciness. At this point I was really enjoying the cigar. Unfortunately I had to put it down a couple of times whereby it went out. However, I was pleased to note that it relit with minimal effort and was savored until the last inch. Near the end, the stick became very powerful. I got quite the nicotine buzz off this little corona.

Final Thoughts

I believe I paid around $3.95 for the cigar. Not bad for a cigar as tasty and full-bodied as this. If you are looking for a smoke that lasts under an hour, this Corona Minor is for you.

Good Review, Jeff. I agree with you, it is a nice short smoke. I have smoked quite a few of these because of the size. They proved to be perfect for sitting out at my son's T-Ball practices. It is kind of nice sitting there watching the little guys run around and enjoying my smoke.

Ahhh, yes, the LADC Corona Minor; a tasty cigar indeed, and I pick up five every Friday. Sadly, the store near me charges $4.50 a stick for them, which burns my arse, but they're still worth it. I buy the Churchill size as well, and, while not as complex as the little fellas, they have a nice, subtle character of their own.

I agree that this brand has some lighting issues, though. They always seem to either canoe or burn dead center and leave behind a wasted outer rim. I usually torch the hell out if it, though, and get it under control.

You get the coronas Jimbo, we don't carry the corona minors. If we did Goerge would probably sell em' for $4.45 :P.

I smoked a La Aroma Cetro last night, perfect burn, great taste (somebody said creamy, I agree) and once again I'm a fan of the line. Can't beat the price.

I am also a fan of the LAdC coronas. Is there a reason CI does not carry them and the lots on CBid are VERY few and far between?

I thought I'd add a few comments on some of the others in this line.

The first time I smoked a LADC was when my boss tossed me a Pyramid, I missed the toss and it fell to the floor. It looked fine, and I've smoked fallen cigars before with no problems, but when I cut this one, the wrapper came clean off. It was like I was holding a blunt wrap. So my first ever LADC was smoked without a wrapper, straight from the binder. Flavor wasn't bad, so I picked up a robusto. This cigar burned horribly. The taste was affected by the uneven burn and the constant relights.

I moved onto the Coronas and I loved them so much I stuck with them for quite awhile. Then I tried the Marquis and like them even more, so I went with those, until I opened up a box in the shop that tasted just baaaaaad (I had this problem with a box of Partagas Black tubos as well, you could smell amonia the moment you popped the cap)

Now come the Churchills. They are every bit as good as the coronas and burn just as great.

Today, I gave the Pyramids another shot (it was time to open a fresh box in the shop) The taste was excellent for the majority of the smoke, but the burn was only good for the first 1/3. About halfway I noticed the wrapper wasn't burning at all on one side. The binder was keeping pace all around, but there was a section of wrapper clean off the cigar. The last third was terrible and smoked too hot due to my attempts to regain a steady light.

I'd say stick to the coronas and the churchills (haven't had a cetro or double corona). I'm going to revisit the Marquis again, since they were really excellent at one point.

I've got to take back everything I've said about the Pyramids. I smoked 3 of them since posting the above and each one burned fine.

Oh man, now I have to retract that last statement. I just smoked another and it was a shitty burner. The construction on these are very inconsistent, but the flavor is soo nice, it's a shame. Two more pyramids left in the 'dor, lets see how these do.

LAdC-Corona Minor is now my favorite NON-ISOM. In a matter of fact, It's almost as good as some of my ISOMs without that certain twang. Great short smoke with an overtone of EARTH and lingering flavors of coffee and mild hint of sweet vanilla. Check out Lil' Brown Smoke Shack website because they are on sale for $55 a box.
