Exclamation The Edge Maduro Torpedo - The Epitomy of Maduro Review

The Edge Maduro Torpedo - The Epitomy of Maduro.
----------------------------------
Honduran and Nicaraguan Filler
Nicaraguan Binder
Beautifully Dark Maduro Wrapper
Size: 6.0x52

note: Rough initial start but it lead into complete bliss and perfection!

This sat in my Humidor for about 5 days in 60% rH and dried out a tiny bit (I'm thinking of adding a second humidification device to my humidor cause its usually at 50-55). These cigars are slow aged for five years and are absolutely spectacular.

I've smoked a few of these torpedos and they are great! Very oily, dark, perfect wrapper. The Edge is The Epitomy of Maduro. We got off on a bad start with a bad burn but it was likely my fault. I gave it the ole' Lick the finger, wet the wrapper routine and that worked wonders making most of the smoking foot come from the slow burning areas thus correcting the mistake. The Edge puts off a lot of smoke and an ash that is as grey as Acid Snow. Smoking this inside, in the early afternoon was probably another mistake so I took the gar out with me to see the world before I completely ended its life. The initial taste resembled Frosted Flakes to me and it is definately full bodied. I use to absolutely adore the CAO MX2 and that was one of my absolute favorite Maduros (I also went for the Macanudo Maduro, Cohiba Maduro(too $$$), and Onyx) but The Edge is comparable to the MX2 only better. There is much more of a complex depth to the flavor of this smoke in comparison with other maduros.

What really sold me on this, besides the fact that everytime I walk into the smoke shop the employees are smoking one and other individuals that come in say its one of their favorites next to RP's Sun Grown (which I have yet to try bc the price tag, but I REALLY wanna try it), is the fact that the wrapper is so incredibly oily. It smoothed out nicely and cooled down a lot about 1/2 way through and the flavor crecendo'ed into perfection.

I would classify this particular smoke as a 'Nose Tickler' making it possible to nose smoke if desired, without too much discomfort. The first pass through the nasal passages revealed a hidden characteristic in this cigar of that I call whisky/rum. I doubt that others would consider it to taste like whisky or rum but that is just what pops in my mind. This is likely due to the five year slow aging process. When I slowly exhaled through my nose the second time I was suprised to find that had a much longer finish than with a regular draw. The Nose Smoking finish is really smooth and tastes like something that has been aged to perfection (hence the reference to whisky/rum/fermentations). A few more nose blows and I am loving this new level of the experience, its like finding a hidden easter egg on your favorite DVD, A hidden track on your favorite CD, or a secret level on your favorite Video Game. When I exhale through my mouth I am greeted with one particular level of flavor and at the same time, when I exhale through the nose a totally new flavor is revealed.

So I switched back and fourth between nasal and oral exhalations finding the perfect balance of flavor. The cigar is completely and utterly Zen to the bone. I love it. I had smoked The Edge Corojo Toro the other day but really wasn't as impressed with it as I have been with the Maduro. I like how they price the Toro and the Torps the same. This is definately an affordable smoke at just around $5.00. I urge all lovers of good cigars, and especially those of you who like Maduros to smoke one of these. I've seen Five Packs listed for between $20 and $25 and that seems outrageously cheap to me. http://www.whiteash.com/mall/theedge.htm

Enjoy the edge as soon as you can and let me know what you think. How about my fellow primates out there who have already smoked one? How do you like them and which do you prefer, the Corojo or Maduro and why?

Happy smoking my friends.

p.s. Here is a beautiful picture of the edge posted by Mayor. You see how damn oily these things are!

Nice review "E" excellent descriptive terms I 've smoked quite a few of these little honeys but alas only the Maddie Toros cuz my cigar monger hasn't ordered anything else.(I've threatened him) I've only smoked one in the Torp vitola that was gifted to me by a friend in San Antonio who says his guy doesn't have anything but Maddie Toros left. I liked the Torp alot!

I'm gonna have to give the edge corojo a try cuz some of the G-o-rillas here and some of my smoke buds say good things about them.

Edge Maduro is one of the best cigars I have ever had. Nothing else to say but that.

Oh great, LasciviousXXX was kind enough to send me one of these as lottery "winnings" a couple weeks ago. I have held off smoking it to date, but it looks like the CC may be doomed in the near future.

BTW - Great review entheomation!

Re: The Edge Maduro Torpedo - The Epitomy of Maduro.

I had the maduro torp last night - draw was waaay too tight. Unfortunate, b/c I could tell it would have been pretty decent otherwise... Still like the JDN Antano better though..

Re: The Edge Maduro Torpedo - The Epitomy of Maduro.

I bought my first JDN Antano along with my edge and smoked it about a day later. It was a small stick and I read a few negative reports about it but I lit it up and absolutely loved the damn thing. Deffinatelly give the edge another try though, too bad you got a bad one, how where the conditions it was stored and what kind of cut did you use on it?
