Ok, I don't consider myself a true aficionado. More of a Harley riding regular guy who just happens to like good cigars. But I'll attempt to do a review of this cigar. I took one of the BG torpedos out of its box (nifty little wooden box btw, lined with cedar and a sliding plastic top) took the cigar out of its cellophane wrapper and laid it in my desktop humi. The other I took out and examined. It appeared to be well made. The wrapper was a nice deep brown with very few small veins. However, it was very firm with not much of a smell. DRY!!! Cutting the cap confirmed how dry this thing was. A good cigar will never crunch the way this one did when you cut it. Oh well, wasn't the first dry smoke I've had, nor will it likely be the last. I wanted to sit down with an ice cold Sam Adams summer ale but opted for a huge glass of ice water instead. It did light easy and the first few puffs were as I expected. Burnt charcoal. About an inch in it settled into a medium bodied but dry smoke. Kinda hard to describe it. It wasn't a leathery taste or at all spicy the way a maduro should be. I won't say it was unpleasant or bitter, just not what I expected. The draw was good and it burned a bit uneven. The ash was solid and even looked nice. I got a good 2 1/2 inches of ash and had to give it hard tap to knock it off. This was the only time I had to touch up the burn. The second third was much like the first third. Dry and needed to get a second glass of ice water. The last third I almost decided to toss it when all of a sudden it started to change. It started to develop a nice spicy flavor. Very nice black pepper flavor and then a nice smooth leather taste. But then just as I thought it would develop more it turned bitter with a sharp ammonia flavor. Had to toss it, very much disappointed. Maybe the other will be better along about New Years. I went to my fridge, took out that ice cold Sam's and grabbed a Fuente Chateau Maduro from the humi. It's been some time since your first post, Dom. It'd be interesting to see how far you've come with cigars. For less than the price of the BG's you can get some really decent smokes. I think I paid $1.89 apiece for Fuente's Exquisito Maduros. It's a much smaller smoke at 4 1/5" and 32 ring guage. I enjoy them when I want a short smoke. There's also the Fuente Curly Head deluxe maduro or natural at 6 /12" and 43 ring guage if you don't mind short fillers. They sell for about $2.49 ea. ![]() |

Re: Blender's Gold??
Oops, I noticed a typo in my first post. The Fuente Curly Head Deluxe is 6 1/2 inches long, not 12" and it is a decent smoke.

Re: Blender's Gold??
I noticed these at a walgreens that is open 24 hrs. I stopped by at about 3am one night and was pleasantly surprised by it! Maybe it was just because I was so happy I found a cigar to smoke that late, as I didn't have any in my reach! I can't say I remember what it tasted like, but i do know it smells, smokes, and tastes like a cigar which was good enough for me!
