La Gloria Cubana Corona Gorda Natural (DR) Review

La Gloria Cubana Corona Gorda Natural
Dominican Republic

I bought a box of ten of these a few months back, smoked about half of them, and the rest have been sitting in my humidor since then. Tonight, I was re-arranging things, making some coolerdor-to-humidor transfers (kind of like a savings-to-checking transfer), and I came across these in the bottom. I pulled one out and gave it a gander. I remember the wrappers looking kind of dull and uninviting when I had bought them, but now, the wrapper looked like some nice oils had come out on it, and it was shiny.

I took it out back, clipped the end off of it, and put a match to the foot. It lit easily, and perfectly evenly after about a few puffs. This nice burn stayed consistent until I left it to die in the ashtray.

The first third was pretty unremarkable. These cigars remind me of the DR Montecristos. They both have that difficult-to-place sweetness to them, sort of on the back of the palate and in the throat. Very similar, in my opinion. The LGC is fuller-bodied, however, and not quite as interesting (IMO) as the Montecristo. I actually enjoy a DR Monte from time to time, although I have to be in the mood for it and I wouldn't purchase them in quantity. Anyway, back to the LGC. The second third, I went walking around the block. This is where the sweetness is in full effect in this cigar. Very straightforward taste, not much complexity to it at all, however.

The last third got some harshness to it, the kind of harshness that comes out on the tip of your tongue. It also started tasting sort of creamy too, but this was overpowered as the cigar got closer and closer to its death. Let it die with about an inch left on it.

I love the size of this cigar, but I'm not sure if I would buy them again. I am not a huge fan of any of the LGC cigars. I used to like the Serie R's a lot, but haven't had one in a while. Their regular line just doesn't do it for me. This is still one to try if you haven't though, a decent 1 hour smoke.

I have several of these in my humidor and like them, but I find myself developing a taste for stronger cigars. A bad sign.

Nice Review, I like the analogy of transfering funds.
That size LGC is by far my favorite, but I like it better in maduro. You should give it a try. I think the whole line is better in maduro, the naturals seem so flat.

I agree 100%.

I get that acrid harshness with the natural line as well in the last third of the cigar. But its not there in the Maduro line.

I smoke the maduro line, but the sampler I bought which was natural's didnt have a acid taste to them. Guess I got lucky.
