Saint Luis Rey Serie G - short robusto Review

I grabbed a handful of these back in October and I finally got a chance to light one up.

First off, it has nice dark color with a decently oily wrapper. Pre-light aroma is fairly light... a bit surprising given it's "look." It had been sitting in my desktop humi at about 70 degrees, 60-62% humidity so I expected a bit of "unraveling" after the cut, but not so.

Right off the light, I was surprised at the controlled, consistent flavor I was able to get off this cigar for the duration of the smoke. Given the combination of its short length and robusto ring gauge, I was expecting it to hit hard and harsh. It proved me wrong and I was pleasantly surprised by the restraint the cigar showed. It did get a bit harsh towards the band and that's when I put it out. The draw was good and consistent throughout and the burn was fairly even without any need for corrections. This cigar burned a bit hot so slow, easy draws were a must.

I would classify this as a medium-bodied cigar with espresso and dark chocolate flavors dominating over an earthy background. I would classify the flavor from the persuasion of a Tatuaje red label or RP Sun Grown though milder and much less spicier than both.

A solid smoke in my book. I was pleasantly surprised and will have no problems working through the rest of them.
