El Rico Habano Corona Suprema (pictures review)

Papajohn67 was kinda enough (or cruel enough, see later) to send me one of these beauties. She's a big stick. I didn't know it was a stick of dynamite rolled in a leaf. Having never had one, I looked at some info - bold, full, potent strength - all the key words that shold've warned me. So, belly full and a few beers and off I went. I got about an hour and 20 minutes out of it. It burned incredibly well with no touchups or relights. By the last picture, my heart rate started to increase, the clammy skin ensued, as well as the forehead sweats. Here it is 45 minutes later, I still have internal flutters and I'm trying to get it together. I'm struggling to type.

It started spicy, then leveled out in the first inch. It was then smooth, full, leathery, with a good tobacco taste. The end was still good, but the vitamin N kicked me in the balls! I sure couldn't smoke these every day. Thanks, John, for a roller coaster ride. Sorry I couldn't nub it, the emergency room fees are way too steep!

If all cigars kicked like this, I'd be a once a week or once a month smoker. Hell, may have to quit!

Kinda why I'm beer drinker and not a liquor drinker...

you'd be surprised what these are like after resting for a year or 3-the big N drops way back, no loss of flavor though

Nice move PapaJohn; El Rico's are awesome. Hey, is there any notable difference between the El Rico Habano version 1 (2006 or earlier) and the version 2 (2007+)?

I wasn't green yet. Actually probably never got green, more of a pale, hallow look. I like the cigar, just a little strong kick. You don't want to smoke these and drive!

You guys like my ashtray? It's a poinsettia candy dish, got from a yard sale for $0.25.

Great stick, any idea how old it was? I guess the newer ones don't have the same kick...

Papajohn67 sent it to me. He has quite a collection of sticks, so who knows. Maybe he came chime in on it's age.

Re: El Rico Habano Corona Suprema (pictures review)

I smoked a Corona Suprema last night. I got these via C-Bid and was surprised to find it was celloed. As I understand it, they currently ship these naked. I found this cigar to be "interesting" nothing like the original blend which would actually make my lips numb while smoking and made my legs shakey while standing.

This go around gave me a cigar with strong vegetal/floral flavor and some full strength. The problem is that it had no "character". It stayed pretty one-dimensional and developed a kind of metallic aftertaste. I grilled salmon before digging into this one and am hoping the dinner flavor might have interfered with the cigar flavor. I give this 6 out of 10 cupcakes.

Three years is the perfect age for these guys imho--they become amazing at that point.

Re: El Rico Habano Corona Suprema (pictures review)

I just had one of these tonight. I am not new to stronger cigars, as I regularly smoke Don Pepin Blues and Blacks, sometimes a La Flor Dominicana DL, or a JdN Antano Consul. But after less than an inch I felt really dizzy. I had a couple big cups of water and something to eat for the rest of the cigar and I felt somewhat better (or I wouldn't have been able to go on smoking it).

I smoked it until it had a couple inches left. I smoked it off the truck (5 pack from Cbid) and it burned perfectly evenly with a nice long ash. The flavor was decent but I was really taken aback by the strength. I smoke fairly strong cigars just about every day so usually they don't hit me like this but this one came close to being the first I couldn't finish! I have to be careful next time. The other 4 are gonna sit for awhile in the cooler.

I've sent some El Rico's off to the troops. I just wish I could be there to watch some young troop grab one and bust his cherry on it.
