Thumbs up Gran Habano Corojo #5 rothchild Review

Well, tonight I tried my first Gran Habano.

Nice looking cigar. The construction and burn is perfect, no flaws and lots of smoke. It was a little strong at first, but it mellowed into a fantastic and complex cigar, it's not a mild smoke that's for sure, medium but more on the stronger side. It goes from spicy to woodsy to earthy to nutty. Even though I'm not used to a stronger cigar, it's just on the border of being to strong but never harsh. I finished it and enjoyed it a lot.

I would really recommend it.

I have found this cigar to suffer from inconsistent flavor profile. Sometimes it can be a bit acrid. The nose is usually quite nice, however, & when they are on, they are quite good. The possibility always remains that it could be my palate that is off & not the cigar.

I love this cigar and I bought a box of the rothschild. I have found, as KHat mentioned, this size to be a little inconsistent as well. But, when they are on, they are great.

I have found that the Gran Robusto size is far more consistent but a much larger cigar. That is why I decided on the box of rothschild was due to the size. I like having these on hand and I have found that even with the inconsistency with this size, the good far outweighs the bad.

Re: Gran Habano Corojo #5 rothchild

These are one of my favorite smokes, and so far I haven't run into any bad ones. When you consider the quality of the cigar to the price, this may just about be the best smoke (to me) in all of cigardom. At $2.15 a stick, they are pretty freakin' hard to beat.

They are definitely on the stronger side of medium, and full bodied, but I have not had any I consider harsh. So far, construction has been very good and burn has been perfect. I do usually purge at about the half-way point, but that's mainly because I'm a pyro and like to play with my lighter.

You might want to try www.cigarbid.com. They have the #5's on a pretty regular basis. Just about any major vendor will carry them.

Re: Gran Habano Corojo #5 rothchild

Name: Gran Habano #5
MSRP: 4.75
Size: Torpedo shape...see pic
Aged in my humidor:no time
Drink Choice: Becks Dark German Beer
Occasion: Saturday night relax time
Time of smoke & Weather Conditions: 10ish, 81 degrees high humidity...Sticky
Pre-Light thoughts: The smell of this cigar filled the room, it had a nice sweet smell and a slightly oily wrapper. the construction was very nice.
The Light:I first used a match stick and heated up the foot,as usual, than puffed a few tomes and she started right up. I had to clip her initially using kitchen scissors because all i had on me was a punch but it was a success. The draw was a little tight but nothing to complain about.
First third: Once into the first third she was burning like a champ, puffs of snow white smoke matched the ash. It tasted complex, but again I apologize for my palate I could not pick out any overwhelming flavors, none the less it was great
Second third: Got more flavorful in the second third. The burn gave me some little problems, but I set the smoke down on the table edge and went inside top use the toilet, came back and it was just about corrected. Cant argue with that!
Final third: Wasn't able to totally nub this cigar because by then time I got it down into the final third I felt like I was just about done. But I kept puffin for a little bit more just for principal...but soon after I was done, no flavor compromised throughout.
Final note: I got this cigar from a new smoke shop, that I love. The overall experience was fantastic. I highly recommend this cigar.

Re: Gran Habano Corojo #5 rothchild

This is definatly one of my favorites too. However, I have yet to have one be harsh or peppery or inconsistant. Mine have always been creamy, smooth, and consistant. I have had a few burn issues, but thats when my beads needed rehydrating. This is the only size out of the #5 line i've tried, definatly look forward to trying them all.
