Montecristo Classic Robusto Review
Some of you guys are going to fall off your chair when you read this, probably for a couple reasons. First, I usually reserve my reviews for T25C and don't follow up much in here, and second, because of the cigar this is about.
I was given one of the new Montecristo Classic Robustos right out of the purse of Janelle Rosenfels, one of the muckety mucks at Altadis. Janelle gave it to me with a smile, I smiled back and didn't think much about it. After I got a note from them asking what I thought, I decided I better smoke the dang thing. Now, I'm lucky enough to get expsed to quite a few cigars, so I can't say that I was having trouble sleeping at night looking forward to trying a new Dominican made Montecristo. Sum up the review with this: The flavor was better than average, but the reason I am writing is the construction was unlike anything, and I mean anything I have ever smoked. This thing was absolutely perfect. Burned perfect, ash stayed on for the whole cigar, draw was perfect, it was almost like this was a fluke...a good fluke. You could have measured the burn rate with a micrometer it was so even. Now I personally don't believe the construction experience I had with this cigar will be duplicated again, but I'm sure going to try. I'll hunt a couple more of these down, just to see if this was a freak of cigar rolling nature or not. I'm not even sure they have hit the stores yet, and for that matter, maybe Janelle's purse is this mystic portal where cigars traspire into perfectly constructed sticks of brilliance. When I find another, I will smoke it, and either buy a bunch more, or steal Janelle's purse for it's magical ability to take cigars to the next level.

Re: Montecristo Classic Robusto
I had a toro the week before last. I had no idea I was smoking a new release. I found the stick in the "help yourself" section of the humidor, where we put the damaged sticks to be smoked by us employees (my boss will throw sample sticks in there from time to time). Last week I saw the Classic ad in the new CA and finally put cigar band and cigar brand together.
My impression of it was of a decent mild smoke, akin to a Cuesta Rey Piramide #9 or something from Ashton Classic. Mine had an astonishing burn too. The kind of burn I regularly see with Oliva Bold (whatever they call their churchills) and Cuesta Rey Sungrown Churchill #1's. Also want to add, my stick was no where near as oily looking as in the ad (but I guess that's to be expected). |
