Partagas Black "Revisited"!!!

I posted a review on 2/1/08 for "My first Strong Cigar". I enjoyed this smoke immensely, but I had serious burn issues and was able to smoke only 2/3 of the stick. On the advice of all the more experienced gorillas, I rested the remainder of my "5-pack" at 65RH in a new, but "seasoned" humi. 3 weeks later, I lit another "Partagas Black". Initial draw was very tight and resulted in a very unpleasant "Bitterness". After 3 minutes of frustration from the tight draw, I determined the cigar to be "plugged"! Just my luck! I skewered the gar with my "Draw Poker" 4-5 times with a definite draw improvement. The burn was much more even with this smoke. I felt like 65%RH would leave my smokes too dry since I had previously kept them at 69%. This was not the case! Thanks, gorillas for all the good advice! This cigar was perfect in moisture content, and the wrapper didn't crack like some of my smokes that I kept at 69%. Fellow "Newbies", listen to the experienced gorillas! "They know some stuff"! The "bitterness" resolved after the draw improved, and the remainder of the smoke was a very pleasant, sweet, full flavored smoke. This cigar tastes so good that it is worth a few problems with draw and burn! I think I'll rest the remainder of my smokes for a few more weeks at 65% to see if all the issues resolve. Thanks again for all your helpful advice, gorillas! I'm learning every day! Have a great one, BOTLS!!!

Thanks for the review! The Black Label Pyramid is one of my favorite smokes. I know with the Pyramid sometimes you get one that's rolled too tight and has a tight draw. Which vitola was it that you smoked?

Mikey: They were the Partagas Black "Clasico" 5-pack I got from Mike's Cigars. My favorite Maduro so far, in spite of the "Issues"!

Re: Partagas Black "Revisited"!!!

Based on so many positive reviews of this cigar, I rushed out a couple of weeks ago and picked one up...still waiting for that perfect time to light it up. Glad you're finding a fav. in this cigar. I hope I'll say the same.

Re: Partagas Black "Revisited"!!!

I always have some "P.B.'s" in my cooler. I've smoked more Clasicos than anything else but I'm not too sure that I don't prefer the Bravos more. I'll get a few tight draw problems with the Clasicos but don't remember having any problems with the Bravos. Storing these a 65% has worked out very well. They smoke much better for me at that humidity.

Re: Partagas Black "Revisited"!!!

Tried the tins and thought they were too harsh, tried the pyramid and thought it was unevenful.

When did these hit the market? I still got this fat toro, from the RTDA show. (trade) Just wondering how old that stick is?

The Partagas Black ranks as one of top 3 favorite cigars and will always have a place in my humi.

This is one of very few smokes I buy by the box. I mostly buy 5ers and singles.

Re: Partagas Black "Revisited"!!!

I just received that very same 5 pack this week and they are resting comfortably. I'm hoping it's warm enough to enjoy one this weekend. It will be my first strong cigar too. Can't wait! Thanks for the review.

Re: Partagas Black "Revisited"!!!

The Partagas Black was my first real cigar. It was amazing and showed me how dangerous the slope is. After reading your review, I went to my local B&M to buy/smoke one. Damn, it is a nice cigar. To be honest, I had not smoked one in over a year. Now that I re-visited the PB, I'm on the hunt for a few boxes .

Re: Partagas Black "Revisited"!!!

This is the cigar that got me started. I have to admit that i rarely smoke one now but i do have a few with a very yellow cello on them. I think that I will take one out tonight for old times sake.
