Review: Olivia Special S

Olivia Special S

This is my first review.. so be gentle.

I picked up an Olivial Special G as part of a sampler that I purchased here from IslandRick. I thought I would post a review while I freeze in my garage.

Cut: Perfect cut with the razor sharp Palio. Nice looking cap.

Prelight draw: Smooth draw with some resistance. Seems to be just about right.

Lighting: The cigar is 7x48 with a tip that made the light very easy to get a nice even start to the burn.

First 1/3: Wow, a punch of spice to start out. Almost taken back and worried this would be too spicy for my newb-ness. The spice quickly smoothed out to a nice flavor. The smoke is a medium grey and has a great aroma. So far, it has a nice dark ash that seems firm. The slow smoke seems to be a problem because it takes a puff or two to keep it going. Just before the ash was about to fall, it went out. A little disappointing considering the extra work I was going through to make sure it stayed lit.

Second 1/3: Flavor and burn have remained consistent. No corrections so far other than the relight. I’ve paired this smoke with a Polar seltzer and a little streaming Conan O’brian. He’s a funny guy…, Okay, back to the smoke. The spice remains smooth with some notes of nuttiness showing up. It seems to really have settled in and blended nicely. Nicotine seems to be showing up about half way. Not knee-knocking, but I had to focus to see the numbers on my cell phone while responding to my buddy asking why nobody can beat Tiger Woods. I responded quickly saying that his one brown tooth has magical powers. (sorry Tiger-fans).

Final 1/3: Not a lot is changing. Only the smoke seems to be all little warmer. The flavor profile remains a med-full. I just relized that NBC has a Vintage section to their website. Streaming A-Team!

Overall: A pretty solid smoke. I would definitely pick another one of these up. Not an all-time favorite, but a enjoyable experience. I would give it a 7.5 out of 10.

Re: Review: Oliva Special G

Nice Review! It seems like many of the cigars I've smoked start out with an initial spice and change to a smooth full flavor towards the second half. Oliva seems to be a crowd favorite! I like RP better, but I've had some good Olivas myself. The V seems to be their flagship if you can find any. Looking forward to your next review!
