Perdomo Estate seleccion-a tale of two halves

TOnight I chose a longer cigar to enjoy as I listened to the Seattle-Arizona game on NFL radio.

Appearance/construction: Dark, dense maduro. 7x54, called "aristocrata" by Perdomo. Firm, densely packed, slightly box-pressed with a small vein down the side. Felt heavy in the hand. Gorgeous presentation.
Score: 5/5.

Burn: Initially, very good. I lit and toasted with a soft flame lighter, left a soft, peppery ash. Burned a little slowly, but no problems initially.
That all changed at the halfway point. suddenly, it began to smolder, rapidly burning up one side, leaving the other side to waft big clouds of black smoke. Even after correcting with a torch, never really corrected well enough.
Score/5

Taste: initially choclately, some nuttiness with a definate nicotine bite. Complex, but not overly so. Full bodied. As soon as the burn got off, the taste went with it. Began to smoke hot, leaving the taste tarry and overly bitter. Left an unpleasant film in my mouth after smoking.
Score:5/10.

So there it is. Great the first half, terrible the second.

Final: 12/20.

I have never been a fan of their estate selection.
I prefer their Perdomo Reserve series but the best for my personal taste is the Y2K series, also known as Perdomo2. Great smoke for the money. They run me under $5 as I generally buy them directly from his factory in Miami.
Don't know if you have tried these Y2K but you should give them a shot.
They come in natural wrapper with a red/orange band and in a very dark maduro with a yellow band. I generally go for the natural.

The Y2K is one of my favorite go-to smokes...I like the yellow band(I think it's the cameroon). I got the estate in a bomb and I was preparing for a wonderful smoke. I have another, I'll give it a little time in the humi and see if it gets better in a few months i guess.

I had an Estate Seleccion Vintage 1991 ESV tonight and thought it was a fantastic smoke. All the way down the burn was perfect, the taste was smooth but full of flavor. I'll need a few more.

I may have just got a dud. I'll give it another shot and see if it's any different.

I think this ESV thing that I smoked is a new release 1991 tobacco or something. I can't find it anyplace online, my local shop has them and everybody working in the shop was smoking one tonight and raving about them. I was quite impressed as well, although they were not cheap, I liked the one I smoked as much as VSGs.

Tazzie, I was at the Seattle - Arizona game last Sunday. I actually found myself thinking of you while I was watching the game. I told my buddy I was with, I know a guy in Tasmania that would really enjoy this game... He didn't believe me.

We had nose bleed seats on the south end of the field but it was a beautifull day and the tickets were free... It was my first time at the new stadium, nice place but I wouldn't want to pay full price for it. Parking was $30!

Oh yeah, nice cigar review.

Cheers!

Hey, thanks for thinking of me! I did indeed enjoy the victory. I'll be able to listen to the Seattle-Washington game a little later tonight on the NFL field pass radio. It's hard not to check the scores when you get online.

It's noce to go see a game, especially ones that are free, no matter where the seats are. I remember taking the bus to see games with my dad when I was a kid...back when Steve Largent was the wide receiver. I'm just glad now that I can at least listen to the games, even all the way down under!

I had a few of these in the humi I've been contemplating over, and dropped the cap on one tonight. WOW. Predomo seems to be developing into one of my favorites, probably have more predomo's in humi than any other (except maybe CAO). The estate seleccion I had tonight was excellent. Burn was off ocassionally, but never more than 1/4 inch, and always touched up rapidly. I smoked it to the 1/4 length, and enjoyed it all the way. Tazzie, you must have gotten hold of a bad one. Give them some time in humi and try again.

On an interesting note, all the ones I have in humi have a vein (or maybe a seam straight down one side. Pretty uniform across the board, so I assume this is intentional design?!

Re: Perdomo Estate seleccion-a tale of two halves

Just smoked a Perdomo estate seleccion last night. Mine was ~ 5.5x48. From the second the cedar match flame started lighting the end and I was staring to get it going I noticed that it seemed loose I guess. Soo much smoke per Puff which I didn't like much. Maybe it was my cutting technique, I used a punch which I normally do. Besides the white out from the smoke it held a very nice ash and burned evenly down to the nub. Had a really good taste (I'm new and don't know how to describe taste yet)...But I knew I liked it. For the price at around 8.00 I would say it's not worth it....But I think a little age coulda done her some good!
