Re: Don Lino Africa
While in Hilton Head I picked up a DL Africa which I have not smoked in some time and tucked it into the humi to take home. Well friday sucked so it took a trip with me to my softball game. The game was about to start so I had two choices with only one exceptable answer. I lit up and would play while enjoying the cigar.
Very glad I did, these cigars are packed with flavor and it settled me into 2nd base primed to go. The girl on 1st had to ask if I'd be able to play with the cigar in my mouth, "We'll see" was my retort. She actually was amused by the act. Besides smashing the ash into my shirt while scooping up a hard grounder I really wasn't much distracted. And dashing for a short popup behind the pitcher I could feel the construction of the cigar was 'solid'. Not like a rock, but the cool trendy usage of the word. While on deck I was very pleased with the rich flavor the Africa was putting off. These Cammie wrappers are delicious. Up to bat I noticed that there was good smoke coming off the end, but a billow of smoke concealing the pitch. With the crack of the bat a smooth transition from mouth to hand as I sprint to 1st. And again to beat the shortstops bobble of the ball to make 2nd. I'm impressed with the strength of the ash as it hangs on pretty darn good. After a move to short the first ball raced under my glove and bounced off my ankles as if it were it by the 'Pinball Wizard'. It was ok though, we got a good laugh and I noticed the sun shinning onto the oily wrapper creating a nice sheen. Standing by the dugout shouting out sarcastic advice to our runner on 1st I nubbed this baby down to an enjoyable finish. Thank you DL Africa for bringing me back from one ****ed up day. I think this may have to become a tradition for my Friday night league. |

Re: Don Lino Africa
Good review KY Toker..
One think I have to point out however is that the Don Lino Africa does not have a Cameroon wrapper (in either case the old version or the new). The Africa name comes from its African FILLER. The wrapper is grown in Nicaragua and is supposedly from 1999 vintage tobacco.. I looked into the company a bit more since my last post. Miami Cigar is the distributor of La Aurora brand and was having LA make the Don Lino Africa brand for them. They have transferred the manufacture of the cigar to a Nicaraguan factory now which I believe they own. Miami cigar also were distributors of the UST brands Astral and Don Thomas in the 90s but I assume that ended when Swedish Match acquired UST.. We can assume the blend has not changed since Miami Cigar has remained the owner of the Don Lino brand and they have only shifted the production location. What remains to be seen IMO is if this Nicaraguan factory can produce cigars of the same construction quality as the La Aurora factory. |

![]() Good catch txmatt and thanks for the info. No, the wrapper hadn't changed, it was just my brain not working correctly. Darn noobies! While there is a big difference between to enjoying a cigar while sitting down and playing softball it was still a very good smoke & experience. |
