Newbie Review - Davidoff Grand Cru No. 5 - Wedding Smoke Canidate #1
Country of Origin: Dominican Republic
Strength: Medium Wrapper: Connecticut-Ecuador Binder: Dominican Filler: Dominican Length: 4 Ring: 41 Very oily, smooth wrapper. Smelled different than anything I've had before, but in a good way. Very sweet, but... not only sweet. There was something else. The cap was very tightly packed and it cut a little awkward with the Palio. At first I was worried it might be too tight of construction to produce a good draw, but... wasn't the case at all. Prelight- Draw was clean and smooth. Tasted like it smelled actually, which was a fun experience. Construction was flawless. Beautiful white ash. It ashed twice through about a 45 minute session where I nubbed it and finally had to toss in the tray . Burn was flawless. Best burning stick I've had to date. Draw was perfect.Normally I break these into thirds to describe the taste, but there really was no change. It was consistent from tip(with the exception of a few puffs at the begging where it was a bit hot) to nub. Very unlike anything I've had. (Haven't had many cigars yet) Usually there is always at least one change, but wasn't the case. I couldn't peg a flavor. Rich, woody, maybe earthy, with a mild spice on the aftertaste? Aroma was incredibly pleasant. (After discussing DBall, he brought up 'grassy', which would be a new taste for me. I have a few other's that people peg as grassy, so I'm curious to compare) Overall opinion. I can also safely say this was the most perfectly constructed cigar I've ever had my hands on. Flawless. Presentation is perfect as well. Taste was smooth, rich and consistent. This was the first smoke I've had on my list for wedding smokes, so it will be the one others will be judged by from here on out. Sorry no pics, but it was late last night. Thanks a ton to DBall for gifting me this smoke to try. - Jordan Last edited by JE3146; 03-08-2008 at 04:14 PM.. |

Sounds like an awesome smoke. You should probably buy more of those...
Like a box...or at least a 5er...

I haven't had a #5 but have found the Davidoff construction to be flawless. You might also want to try a couple in the Zino line with the burgandy wrapper they are some tasty little guys too.
