Tatuaje Especiales - 1st review

Smoked one of these last night in the garage. It's the first brown label that I have had in quite some time, and the first in this particular size, so I was really looking forward to it. The construction was flawless, as expected. It lit up easily and the first draw produced a really nice volume of smoke. I immediately notice that this vitola didn't have the usual spice of other Pepin blends. The last Tat brown label I had was a Noella and I remember it being very spicy at the beginning.

This smoke stayed pretty consistent through the first 2/3 and I really had no issues with the burn, other than one relight. It produced huge amounts of smoke and I kept thinking to myself as I was smoking it was that it was much milder than other Pepin blends and Tats that I've had recently. In the last 1/3, the strength picked up and I began to notice a little spice, but nothing like the Noella.

This cigar took about an hour and 40 min. to get through and it was a very enjoyable cigar. After I finished it, I got on the interweb and noticed that it is rated as the mildest of the Tatuaje browns. I agree.

I will definitely pick up more of these and save them for when the weather is better and I can enjoy them on the deck. Overall I give it a solid A rating.

I have one of these resting in my humi that BluehavanaII (Jim) gifted to me recently and I have been fighting off the urge to smoke it daily. This particular vitola is what convinced my father that good cigars do come from places other than Cuba.

I've been drawn to the lancero sized cigars lately. I'm not sure what it is. One thing I really had to concentrate on when smoking this particular cigar was to not rush it or to draw too strongly. I guess that is why it lasted so long. I picked up a Oliva Serie V lancero the other day and have a Pepin Centurion lancero resting in the humi, too. I think I will wait until the weather warms up before I burn them.
