Rocky Patel Vintage 1992 Churchill Review

A few weeks ago I received some cigars from Massphatness on the newbie PIF forum. One of the smokes he sent me was a Rocky Patel Vintage 1992 Churchill. After smoking this sucker I decided to pick up some more to confirm my suspicions about this stogie. After smoking several more it's confirmed. This is one of the best smokes I have ever tried.

1. Appearance: 9.0

Upon first inspection these cigars are well constructed, firm and look great. The wrapper is a pleasing shade of brown with no real discernible problems. Well, okay, maybe a minor defect in one but other than that these are rock solid.

2. Burn: 9.5

Burn was consistent throughout and I only had to do one touchup on only one of the cigars.

3. Flavor: 9.2

The flavor on these started mellow and smooth. Very pleasing to the tongue. After a while a bit of spice developed but stayed smooth. The last third was also very flavorful with a bit of spice but it retained a creamy smoothness all the way to the end.

4. Strength: 9.0

Being a smaller ring gauge, only 48, this had a fair amount of strength. Not too strong, not too weak, just right.

5. Value: 9.4

For the price you can't beat these cigars. Retailing for about 8 bucks they are a deal at that price. If you can get them cheaper you are getting away with robbery.

6. Overall: 9.2

This is a definite go-to cigar for me. With superior construction, taste, burn and price I have found a great cigar that I will probably enjoy for years to come.

I couldn't agree more. I was a huge fan of the 1990 and finally got some of the 92's in the short figaro size and they are fantastic. I will be keeping both of them in the humi as go to sticks

Nice review, I've got a few of the 1992 Robustos and they are a nice smoke. Much better than the RP Decade I've tried

Re: Rocky Patel Vintage 1992 Churchill

The 1990s and 1992s are definitely solid smokes. I picked up 15 of the RP Vintage 2nds in this vintage and size for $35 off Cbid and that was definitely a worthwhile purchase. I used to prefer the 1990 but I am growing to appreciate the 1992 also. I don't pick up much spice from them, lots more leather and earthy tones.

I really enjoy the 1990 but haven't tried a 92 yet. Will do so now, thanks for the review!

Great smoke & good review

This cigar was a huge seller just a few years ago maybe it still is?

I still think this is the best cigar out of Rocky's line up.

My question is how does he not run out of tobacco from 1990 & 1992?

I believe it's "12 years aged" and "10 years aged" for the wrappers, or something like that, so when they were launched in 2002 the wrappers were from 90/92 and so six years later he's using wrappers from 96/98.

I love the RP 1992's. Definitely one of my faves for the money. And the seconds are even cheaper and equally as good. For $2.50 a pop, they are outstanding!

Re: Rocky Patel Vintage 1992 Churchill

Has anyone tried the 90 or 92 RP Vintage seconds yet? I really loved the 92's. Thought they were a wonderful, full-bodied complex smoke with nice spice. I have had several of the Churchill size.

I am thinking about a bundle of the seconds as a little less $ to make this a go to smoke from CI or that devil-bid site....

Any thoughts about the seconds would be appreciated. They are advertised as rejected due to slight cosmetic issue or something along that line.

Sorry for the Hijack, I am just wondering since there are several folks here that enjoy the RP Vintages.
Thanks,

Patrick

Re: Rocky Patel Vintage 1992 Churchill

I'm a newbie, so take my comments with a grain of salt. RP Vintage cigars are among my favorites, so far. I think the seconds are the same, flavor-wise, as the regulars and I've been getting both the seconds and the regular production inexpensively on CBid.

These are wonderful smokes. The history of the wrappers seems a bit hazy however. Does anybody really know when they were harvested?

I lke the RP92 series - slightly more so than the 90 series. Very consistent, reliable cigars with a great burn. I also get them usually on Cbid.

Nice Review! The RP 92 was one of my first "quality" smokes and is what sold me on the RP line! Try the RP Edge maduro next, my favorite smoke!!!

Thank you for the review. I concur with everything written. I've never paid 8 bucks for them, though. Usually around $4-$5 on C-Bid.
