Arturo Fuente Hemingway, Short Story Review

Brand: Arturo Fuente Hemingway
Type: Short Story
Size: 4 ¼ x 49
Filler: Dominican
Binder: Dominican
Wrapper: Cameroon
Retail Price Paid: $5.

Appearance: This cigar has a beautiful deep brown color with a unique shape, especially the foot, with a slightly oily and flawless wrapper.

Construction: The wrapper was flawless and the cigar was nicely rolled. A very well made cigar. The burn however was uneven at the start but evened out for the most part after a couple of touch ups. The uneven burn IMHO was because of the shape of the foot but could have also been because of my inexperience with lighting this shape cigar. The draw was a little tight at the start but opened up very nicely after a few of puffs (again IMHO based on the shape). After the cigar opened up it provided a good draw with an ample amount of smoke and kept a good ash.

Flavor: It provided a consistent and flavorful woody and sweet nutty taste throughout the entire smoke. I enjoyed it until the end, a real finger burner. A pleasant medium bodied smoke with an agreeable aroma.

Value: The price is the only true down side I see to this stick, that is if I can learn to light them properly. Not that $5 dollars a stick is a true bank buster, but I would like to get a little more smoke for the buck. All in all a great little smoke.

It is my understanding that the shape of the Hemingway series is very difficult to make and is therefore made in limited quantities. Maybe if they got rid of the unique foot and opened it up, the time and expertise to roll one would go down as well as the price.

Hemingway Classics are a little longer, but same taste. Got to love the Cameroon wrapper!

I have to agree, the SS is a teriffic smoke. The last time I enjoyed one was with a small glass of Sambuca. Highly recommended.

I think you just hit the business sense of making the perfecto shape on the head.

Re: Arturo Fuente Hemingway, Short Story

Thanks for the review.. but this cigar just doesn't work for me.. I dont really like them at all and find them to be very one demensional. I've smoked three of them One Short Story on Hemmingway 'Series' and another one of a different size that I can't recall which one it was. I love the AF line but for some reason I the hemmingway just doesn't do it for me.. Maybe I need to try one again, I dont know.. I would love to be able to find depth and flavor in it but i just cant.. But thanks for sharing the review!

This is true for me as far as the Short Story goes. For some reason, the nearly same sized Work of Art has a MUCH better flavor profile. My favorite of the series is the Signature. For some reason it seems that everything works just right with that sized cigar. Maybe because it is the original Hemingway? I would give them another try, at least the larger ones.
