The Legend of Anejo..... Review
Yesterday, I decided to seek out the solitude of my garage with the beer fridge and TV for a little football watching and a cigar. Yes, I even have satellite TV in the garage and the NFL Sunday Ticket, so this called for more than and everyday cigar. I wanted something with that little extra. I went to my "storage" coolerdor and grabbed an Arturo Fuente Anejo No. 50. It was time. This cigar had been waiting since last December.
Okay, everyone has heard the hype that surrounds the Anejo's and I have to admit that I have 4 of these in my coolerdor, but I have shown remarkable strength and let them sit for about 10 months. Needless to say, I was anticipating a great smoke. The cigar was very firm to the touch and I cut the end with my trusty Palio. I pulled the palio out instead of the normal havana cutter because I didn't want to take any chances with this one. Pre-light draw seemed a little tight, but the smell and tobacco flavor heightened the anticipation. The wrapper looked almost chocolate it was so dark and oily. As I toasted the foot and took the first draw, I immediately realized that this is not your everday cigar, but could it live up to the hype. The draw was not tight at all and this cigar produces a lot of smoke. You could tell that this was going to be a full bodied smoke, but there was a certain smoothness to it that I just can't put into words. As I smoked, the flavor grew a bit more intense, but that smoothness remained, never harsh. This cigar burned laser straight and produced a very firm silvery ash that held on what seemed to be forever. I have had a lot of cigars turn harsh or bitter towards the end lately, but this one held its smoothness throughout, right down to the fingers. I wish I could put into greater detail the flavors that I experienced, but I really just can't put a finger on those other than wow! On this day, this cigar, I have never had a better domestic. In addition, I have only smoked one or two ISOM's that rival it and only one that I would say was better. For me, the legend of Anejo rang true and I can't wait to experience the next one.

Re: The Legend of Anejo.....
I've only had a couple and also think they're as good a NC as I've ever had. I like them better than the Opus X.

Re: The Legend of Anejo.....
I have yet to see an Anejo. Funny thing, I can get OpusX fairly regularly but not the Anejos.
Good review, thanks.

Re: The Legend of Anejo.....
AHHH ! The Fuente Anejo. So hard to get and so good to smoke. The smoke and that white ashh they produce are incredible. It looks like you enjoyed yours. These are definately a great cigar. I have some aging myself.
If you think these are good you need to try an original release one.Very hard to get. But OMG ! Glad you enjoyed.

I've had a few of these and they are a dream. Worth every penny I've paid for them. Everytime I've just drifted off to my own little place. Quote:

Re: The Legend of Anejo.....
Great review. I smoked one, the #46 and they are one of my favorite cigars I have ever smoked. I love these. I just hoped they were more available at MSRP(I guess I'm just dreaming).

Re: The Legend of Anejo.....
nice review............the one thing that rings true with these cigars is their consistency. they always seem to have a very good to perfect draw and burn. they also seem to have that consistent (wonderful) flavor throughout.
if you like the flavor profile, try the regular AF SG line, the AF Hemingways or even the DC Maximus. all of these will definitely please and are easier to get (and a little cheaper) than the Anejo. ![]()

I have to say that for consistancy and burn issues I would agree with you. The Anejo, no matter what size you smoke, will burn straight, provide overwhelming smoke, dazzle you with it's complexity, and satisfy you every time. That being said, about every three Opus I smoke, one will have a few years on it and perform brilliantly! Sublime in it's flavors, intoxicating in the experience. Hard to say which one I like better. I guess I would have to say I like which ever one I'm smoking at the time! |

Re: The Legend of Anejo.....
A few birthdays ago when I first took up this 'hobby' I was gifted one of these from a regular at the b&m. I did not think I had been around enough to warrent an expensive stick. I had figured this was a $3-4 Fuente. I smoked it on my birthday night and loved it. The next time I was in I found out all about the anejo.
I can say that this is one stick that I had not heard any hype on, and it is still one of the best cigars I have ever smoked.
