Thumbs up Gispert Churchill Review

Gispert Churchill
Size: 7 x 54
Wrapper: Ecudorian
Filler: Honduran, Nicaraguan
Price: $2.52

Occasion: Easter Celebration

I spend so much time looking for full-bodied, spicy cigars that sometimes I am surprised how much relaxation can be derived from a high-quality, well-balanced mild smoke. Gispert (pronounced his-pairt) definitely fit the bill tonight, chatting with friends and sipping on a sweet port wine. This cigar sported a golden wrapper, free of almost all veins and blemishes. Upon lighting it, I tasted hints of spice and nuts, and for a few minutes I thought it was going to be medium-bodied, but then it quickly settled into a light, sweet taste (no doubt greatly influenced by the port). The draw was firm, yielding mouthfuls of clean white smoke. The aroma was surprisingly robust for a such a mild taste. It certainly gave off a cedar-like smell, although I did not taste any cedar. The finish was light, with almost no aftertaste. It burned like a champ for over an hour and a half.

I did some research on the brand but did not turn up very much information. The cigar is made by Altadis, one of the two biggest cigar companies in the world, and its slogan is "A five star cigar without a five star price." It was named after a 19th century Cuban brand, and was once rated 90 by Cigar Aficionado.

Re: Gispert Churchill

My sentiments exactly. I like a good creamy mild smoke from time to time, and this cigar delivers. It goes great with a cup of coffee in the morning.

Great review, always keep a box of Robustos on hand; as kermit noted, good stogie with morning coffee.

Re: Gispert Churchill

Just finished the maduro version of this. Very nice. A little tight on the draw but smooth all the way through. Only had a couple of spots were it got a little warm/spicy but that faded back to an overall creamy smoke.

Re: Gispert Churchill

i have to say, one of the bust under $3 retail cigars i smoke. i usually get them for friends who dont smoke, but want to try, because its cheap so i dont mind if they chuck it half way, and its mild, so they can get used to the feeling of smoking without the heavy spices. its a good intro stick, or one if you just want to give your pallet a break from maduros. thanks for the review

I've heard good stuff about these-especially at that price-thanks for the heads up!

Re: Gispert Churchill

Nice review.

It's good to see a review on a brand that is often overlooked. I think Gispert is overlooked because of it's low price, nice that you gave it a try.

Re: Gispert Churchill

My first box purchase was the Gispert Maduro Churchill. This is a great inexpensive cigar. It was on the CA 2005 Top 25 list.

Re: Gispert Churchill

Gisperts are good, particularly for the price; I have a friend that keeps these in regular stock. Great burn, creamy, mellow, very predictably good.

Re: Gispert Churchill

Great review, the Gispert Churchill Natural is one of my favorites, Im out now and you have just reminded me to stock up again. When I don't have these on hand I fall back on my second favorite the Dominican 4000 Churchill to me its a poor mans version of the Gispert Churchill.

Nice review! This is a line of good value priced cigars. Have a box of Lonsdale Maduros I really enjoy.

Re: Gispert Churchill

seriously the gispert??? I smoked one with one of the employees at the b&m saying he heard good things about it from one of his regulars...we cut it and lit it up...one of my worst. The draw on both of ours were terrible, punching it with a GOLF TEE didn't help the draw 1 bit. My entire wrapper fell off. Not just a piece, the entire piece....no more gispert for me
