Nub Habano Torpedo Review
I was blessed enough to be gifted by new and close friend ir13. He is a great young guy growing in the world of cigars.
Well, his gift was undeserved and greatly appreciated. So, here is a quick review of an early production cigar. Wrapper: Habano Filler: Nicaragua Binder: Nicaragua Size: 4" x 64 Torpedo The cigar looks pretty and fat. It does look like it would be a nice cigar to smoke. ![]() The cap is nicely crafted and looks really nice. Man, this is a fat cigar. ![]() The foot looks like a really well rolled cigar. I hope the taste is worth the hype. The pre-light draw was nutty and full bodied. The beginning of the cigar came across full bodied and strong but not really spicy. Its hard to explain but the cigar tasted strong and full but not really spicy. There was a little nutty flavor mixed with a musty full bodied taste. I agree with the websites review that the cigar had a smoke filled after taste, but a good smoke filled after taste. It was clearly and Oliva blend. It tasted like a V without a little less strength. In this case, I mean less strength as a good thing. I think this had a better taste than the V. The V was a little fuller bodied. ![]() One of the hard parts of smoking this cigar, which there was many I will mention, was the difficulty in judging the breakdown of the cigar. I had a hard time telling where the first, second, and third part of the cigar was. I can tell with Cubans because the taste changes. However, not many of the non-Cuban cigars I smoke change like the Cubans, so I measure the thirds by the size of the cigar. This cigar was hard to read where each third was. ![]() This is the photo they use most on the website. ![]() Also, I had to test out the notion that the cigar rests on its ash. It does. The second third of the cigar made a minor change. It mostly developed more nuttiness. The nice nutty flavors increased. ![]() Another interesting thing about this cigar is the look really seems to never change no matter how long you smoke it. There is about a 5 to 10 min gap between this and the next picture, but the change looks unnoticeable. ![]() The other interesting thing about this cigar is the burn. In the middle of the cigar, the burn got a little uneven. For a normal cigar this amount of unevenness would be okay, but with this cigar, a little uneven burn looks like the cigar won't catch up because of the shortness of the cigar. But, the cigar did eventually catch up and burned nice. I was also lost trying to figuring out where the nub on the Nub begins. The cigar is so short it takes a while to figure out when you are at the nub. ![]() The end of the cigar was good but no real change from the second third. I thought the picture above was the nub then realized this next picture was really the nub. ![]() The cigar was so big that both pictures of the nub of the Nub burned a little hot once in a while and burned my fingers because it was so large and hard to hold. The size mad the hot part of the cigar bigger then a normal cigar and harder to hold at the nub. The construction of the cigar was clearly an Oliva rolled cigar. Great construction. From the get-go the draw was great...better than many thinner cigars. The ash was a really pretty white and well constructed; however, there was two ashes as many smaller cigars have. I expected only one ash. My cigar had two ashes. I thought this cigar, overall, had a great taste. I really liked the flavor. I liked the flavor better than the Oliva V torpedo. I thought it had more variation without lacking a lot of strength. However, the cigar was mostly mono-dimensional. So, if you are looking for change, this is not the cigar for you, but if you are looking for a great tasting cigar for about 5 or6 bucks, this is it. Oh, I also timed how long it took to smoke the cigar. I smoke slightly above medium speed, and this cigar took me 72 mins to smoke. It really lasts as long as they claim it does. Was very impressed by that. I would rate this cigar a 8.9 out of 10. Remember I grade cigars very critically. I have considered creating and all cigar rating and a non-CC rating. in the non cc rating this is a 9.5, but in the overall rating system this is an 8.9. I recommend picking some up. They are definitely worth the hype for the price point.

Re: Nub Habano Torpedo
All the reviews I've read have talked about the consistency of the cigar from beginning to end. Seems like that's the point of the "nub" concept, and that Oliva and Nub have realized that. Interesting. I'm looking forward to trying one.

Re: Nub Habano Torpedo
I also burned my NUB Habano Torpedo from ir13 last night. (detecting a theme, anyone?)
A few shots. ![]() ![]() ![]() My burn problems started quickly and never corrected. I do agree, though.... this is every bit a $5 cigar. Not horribly complex, flavor was decent, and definitely a conversation starter. From toast to nub (or nub nub), I spend 56 minutes on this cigar.
