Diamond Crown Maximus Churchill #2 Review

It was just aw'ight with me, dog.

I expected a lot from this stick which was a gift from my daughter. It was beautiful with an awesome band and was, like most Fuentes, very well made.

Good pre-light aroma and draw, but not great. It burned evenly all the way down and had a nice white ash.

Once lit, my first thought was that it reminded me of a Cuesta Rey 898, which is a fair to good cigar that I used to smoke a few years ago. My big complaint with the 898s was that they ALWAYS seem to taste a little young, no matter how long I let them sit. The Maximus was similar though not as bad.

Unfortunately, it never got any better for me and for $16 (ave. retail) I sure was expecting more than a earthy, woodsy taste I could get from a cheap bundle.

I know some of you may just think I am a "Nic" snob, but I do like some DR sticks and some other Fuente family smokes.

Maybe I should have let it sit for six to nine more months, but it was gift and I felt like I needed to smoke it.

I would give it a 6.5 to 7 out of 10. Anyway, that's my take.

Thanks for reading,

Mike

Hi Mike,

i picked up two of these sticks a couple of months ago and my impression was very much the same as yours. Somewhat one-dimensional and a flavour profile that was "grassy" and pretty mild. Sure it had a woodsy thing to it, but it just wasn't that interesting and had no complexity imho.

Only tried the brand once. Picked it up as a birthday gift for myself, and for the amount of money I spent vs what I expected, I felt like ending the friendship with myself. It wasjust plain, very vanilla.

Hmm,

My review of the robusto was typical Fuentes flavor profile with extra richness to the point of overwhelming me towards the nub. Had to put it down early because it got too strong. I thought it was a good cigar until it got too rich.

Re: Diamond Crown Maximus Churchill #2

I finally smoked my first DC Maximus tonight. I have gifted a couple out and had one left. It had been in the humi for about 8 months. Great construction, a little spice, excellent burn and draw. This is a very nice medium-bodied cigar with tons of flavor. This was a great cigar and I would definitely recommend this cigar to anyone.

I've had only a few of the DCMs and they have ranged from great to just OK. Not necessarily worth the retail price tag, IMHO.

Nice review Mike!

The only DCM i've ever tried i really liked. Like colgate said, it got very rich at the end and gave me a pretty nice buzz. It probably isn't worth the price tag, but still a great smoke.

You are close to what I have thought of both the Robusto and torpedo - except I didn't have to put them down

I like them, especially if they can sit for a bit...

Re: Diamond Crown Maximus Churchill #2

This Diamond Crown maximus 2 I got from a friend who brought it with him from the States, as Diamond Crown isn’t for sale in The Netherlands. The aroma is deep and heavy while the cigar looks good with its oily wrapper. And the band, damn, it can compete with the Opus X band, colorful with loads of details. This may be one of the better looking cigars I’ve ever seen. The predraw is light and releases some sweetness.

The cigar stars off with leather and soon some citrus which progresses to a wood flavor approximately an inch from the top. Halfway I can taste coffee and later on some chocolate.

The smoke is quite thick, the ash white and firm. The draw is fine, and I had no problems with the burn.

Would I buy this cigar again? Yes.

Construction: 16 / 20
Draw: 16 / 20
Appearance: 18 / 20
Smoke && ash: 6 / 10
Burn: 16 / 20
Aroma (foot) 9 / 10
Aroma (body) 8 / 10
Aroma (head) 7 / 10
