Nub Habano 460 Review
Gifted from Ir13 with such high expectations...
Good construction, great pre-light hope... Is monotonous a relative cigar-describing term? If so, here you go. Not bad, not great. 5 bucks-not bad, only lasted an hour for me but over the hour I had zero change. I was hoping for a slow-down flavor-changing period but it never panned out. Short review, not much to cover. I guess I wanted the finish other Olivas have to offer from start to finish but this stick was lacking. Any thoughts...?

Thanks for the update--my favorite NUB is the Camaroon.

Another review of the Nub Habano 460
Just wanted to give my thoughts on the 460 Habano I finally got to smoke:
A sampler from cigar.com fell off a plane monday, and although I should know better I couldn't wait for the sticks to settle some... Picked the smallest Nub of the pack, the 460 Habano, for the get together yesterday. Looked great, smaller than I expected, but still great. The first indication of things to come came just as I cut it, and heard a loud crunching noise.. the head was really dry, and split the wrapper down to the band. Started to unravel a little bit, but some glue took care of that. Toasted it properly (triple torch is handy at these ring gauges ) and lit it up.Great taste, right from the get go. Lots of great, good-tasting smoke, and of course pieces of the wrapper got stuck to the lips. The burn didn't behave at all, and required touch-ups fairly often to not fall too far behind in spots. The unraveling of the wrapper continued and more glue didn't help at all. The burn was extremely inconsistent, and the ash didn't hold as long as I thought it would (it actually fell over just after the compulsory 'stand on it's ash in the ashtray'-shot below). But the taste was great all thru the cigar, all the way to the end (kept smoking for a while even after the wrapper finally fell off altogether, second pic below), which makes me hopeful for the rest of the box.. once I give it time to settle from the 2+ weeks in transport and perhaps give them some age too. I think (and hope!) that my burn and wrapper problems were a one time occurence, probably due to me not letting it settle, or possibly it could have been a bad stick (happens even the best). I will try some more NUbs before passing final judgement, but so far I've found it good taste-wise, and believe that the burn and wrapper issues was due to my impatience. If the construction proves to be as bad on several others I would probably pass on the NUbs, there are other cigars just as good that don't distract from the enjoyment by falling apart. /Pac

Re: Nub Habano 460
I found myself in Des Moines this week for the funeral of my son-in-law's dad. Since we had some quiet time, I got the lad and his brother-in-law and brother out on the "polish patio" and we fired up some sticks. Rick tried a DPG Black Label robusto, Evan had a HDME Epicure maduro, and Steve is a cigarette smoker and stayed with those. I had my first Nub. It was a 460 Habano and when cut, the head cracked and seemed dry. The draw was good and the burn was even but I am still looking for the flavor. I would give it at best "mild to medium" in body. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't anything spectacular. I finished it with warm fingers about the same time the others finished their 5" cigars. I figure any experience where you learn something is valuable even if it's not a great experience. I have 4 more and will try again when they get a little age on them to see if there is any change.

Re: Nub Habano 460
I had mine as well, the Habano Torpedo. The construction, burn, flavor and aroma were all good imo.The downside is that its just not comfortable to hold and for the price, better choices can be made.
Thanks papajohn67 for the opportunity to try one

Re: Nub Habano 460
I was also somewhat disappointed by them, all of them. Smoked my last Cameroon this afternoon...still a flop in my book. So far the reviews have been mixed, sent out 16 of them so hoping that some of the BOTL enjoy them.

Re: Nub Habano 460
Well this is probably not the right thread but what the heck....I had a Cameroon that dwhitacre gifted to me and I thought it was pretty good....construction, draw, and flavor were very nice. Size didn't bother me but I like all size cigars anyway. Makes me want to try the others now.

Yesterday I smoked the Nub Habano chubster that papajohn67 sent me. Construction was good and the burn was nice and even, with gobs of smoke. The taste was pleasant enough - fairly straightforward tobacco taste which I like, though it got a little harsh after the first 3rd. Maybe some rest would help.
The overall experience was kind of odd. I don't normally like big rg cigars but the large rg seemed amplified with the Nub because of the short length. I felt as if I was trying to get as much as possible from each puff since it seemed like the stick was too short to last - kind of like gulping a drink through a giant straw. I know Nub says there's as much tobacco in it as a churchill but I got a little under an hour out of it and most churchills last me about 90 minutes. I dunno, just something seemingly unrefined about it, not really a relaxing experience. ![]() I do appreciate your generosity John - thanks for the opportunity to try this cigar that has been such a hot topic lately. |

Re: Nub Habano 460
Got 5 in a box split recently. Tried the first the other day, Habano. I guess I expected something special. Didn't get anything special or even really good. I have 4 others and won't make any rash judgements yet. I did have a Perdomo ESV 91 after that, and as usual it was outstanding

Re: Nub Habano 460
Even with the mixed reaction I will have to try the Habano when my B&M gets them in. Tried the Conn and found it to be good for the price.

Re: Nub Habano 460
All right just starting on mine now, I waited a bit longer after dinner than I was planning on, but here I go. Can't find my camera, so sorry no pictures this time.
Appearance -- This cigar looks pretty good, there are very mild veins in it and the cap looks very well done. The cigar is quite firm, it doesn't have much of a give to it. This cigar isn't losing any points on appearance from me. Cut and pre-light draw -- I clipped this with my Palio and unlike others I didn't have any problems with the cut or any cracking. The resistance on the draw seems very nice to me right now. I'm getting a rather strong earthy/nutty taste. The aftertaste on the PLD is unique, I can't quite place it. Now onto the fun part of lighting up this beast. Light -- The cigar actually lit quite easily with my Blazer. I'm getting quite a bit of smoke out of the first draws of the cigar, and they're very earthy. First Third -- Pretty earthy and med/full bodied right now. Burning quite straight. The only problem is the wrapper has seemed to have cracked. Hopefully the cigar won't explode as I progress. The crack has not gotten any worse as the 1/3 has progressed, so I'm happy about that. The earthy intensity has lighted a bit as I'm about an inch into the cigar now. More leathery and smooth right now. We'll see how this cigar progresses in the second third. Second Third -- Still pretty earthy/leathery. The burn is going well still. Straight for the most part. I have found the second third of the cigar to be much more smooth than the first third. I'm enjoying the cigar right now. The taste is pretty good, nothing spectacular, but not bad. Each draw is still producing a large amount of smoke. I'm really liking the draw on this cigar too right now. The ash fell off on its own, right at about the end of the second third. Looking at bringing this home in the final third. Still burning great. Final Third -- Taste has pretty much stayed the same. It hasn't gotten hot on me which is a plus. The burn is doing well too. Well as I approach the end of this stick the wrapper decided to explode on me. Not bad since I had less than an inch left anyway, but still happened. Let this smoke die shortly afterwards. Let's bring this home. Overall Impressions -- This smoke was pretty good, I think it warranted its price. I of course would have preferred the end didn't explode on me, but some things are out of my control. I found the smoke to have a pretty solid earthy flavor throughout. The burn on this stick was great, pretty straight for the duration of the smoke. I finished up at exactly one hour, so it lasted a fairly long time. I don't know if I'm going to buy a bunch of these. I might get a few more, but I doubt a box purchase is in my future. I'd definitely smoke another of these if they were gifted to me though. I can't think of a whole lot else to write about these right now. I have a couple more in the cooler. I'll revisit them in a couple months to see if there is any change. Overall I'll rate this smoke at an 8/10. Not too bad, pretty good value for the money. Here's a deal for someone who hasn't tried a Nub. Post in this thread that you'd like to try one of these cigars out, and I'll send you one of mine, same as I just smoked 460 Habano. First one who asks for it gets it
