Exclamation Do you believe in love at the first puff? An ERDM Love Story.

Do you believe in love at the first puff? An ERDM Love Story.

This is my first MASSIVE ATTACK! cigar review. I'm slowly going to try and repay all the great Gorillas that made this possible for me by submitting reviews for the amazing cigars that I was attacked with. The following review is a little long and I ramble on a bit but its because I was very surpised and impressed by my first experience with an El Rey Del Mundo cigar. If you have a little extra time, read through this and hopefully you can find some similiar feelings towards these amazing cigars, that I felt.

Anyone who has not yet tried an El Rey Del Mundo, PLEASE take time to at least skim through this review. because I want to inspire you to try one of these.

I have waited for a very long time to try an ERDM and I was fortunate enough to survive a massive bombing Co-Op that was put together by some fantastic BOTL's and I ended up with Two NC ERDMs. I was SO happy to see them!!! I'm not sure which size that this one is, it is slightly smaller than the other one.

I love the cigars that are wrapped in that pretty white paper, like some of the CAO Criollo, and of course this one. I believe that i've seen some Camacho that were wrapped in silver paper.

Anyways, I unwrapped the cigar carefully but anxiously. I removed the band that was around the paper and replaced it back onto the cigar itself. The overall look and prelight characteristics of this cigar bring one word to my mind, Bold. I have no idea what to expect from this cigar and that is what is going to be so awesome about smoking it. In my mind I believe the ERDM to be comporable to Punch, HDM, and maybe Padron.. just the backbone foundation brands.. but I truthfully do not know anything about them.

This cigar feels perfect between my fingers, like having the perfect tobacco pipe that seems like it was actually made for your hand specifically. I dont want to jump the gun and assume that this cigar is perfect for me because I havent even lit the darn thing yet but thats gonna change right now.

I light it up and I am immediately impressed with the taste. Its rather full , could simply be because its the first puff, and has lots of flavor. A sharp spiciness is the first thing that I notice and I like it a lot. I find that it has its own very unique flavor profile that differs greatly from what I previously believed to be its peers. The flavor reminds me a lot of the smell of a local headshop. Not that it tastes like incense, but it has a lot of depth to it. The draw is perfect and its producing a huge amount of smoke. I can smoothly blow the smoke out through my nose. The flavor is awesome!!! This cigar is pretty awesome!! The burn and the draw are el perfecto!! I used the bad ass Havana H Single bladed guillotine with a nifty button on the side cigar cutter to cut the crown on this bad boy. What a kick ass cigar... I'm pleased to have been able to enjoy my first one so much (and I'm only about 1/4th the way into it!).

The ash is pretty heavy and hard-core looking. Intense stuff. And the wrapper leaf is so smooth and flawless. So besides the flawless body she's got a great personality. I particularly like exhaling this through my nose. Theres a nice smooth nuttiness to it and I've just noticed the presence of Cocoa or Chocolate Milk in the second hand smoke flowing like mad out of the foot of this bad boy. Anyone who has ever smoked a Chocolate Phillies Blunt will know what sort of taste that I am reffering to. Its not really in the taste but more in the aroma of the smoke. I didn't expect the cigar to change pace on me like this but its rather enjoyable. Theres just so much flavor.

I'm going to have to say that this cigar reminds me of an excellent premium / super .. I imagine that there are some fantastic ERDM's out there.. I can't wait to try the Havana ERDM!!! WOHOO!. This briefly reminds me of a peterson (by ashton) cigar that i've had in the past.. Its got so much flavor to it that it also sort of reminds me of the Drew Estates Natural Root!!! Yes its so fantastic when a regular cigar like this can have just as much flavor and depth than tobacco that has been "infused'.

This cigar must be really enjoyable and relaxing because I just nodded off and fell asleep with it in my mouth. Luckily I was able to snap out of it.. Hell, it could be that i'm watching martha stewart and she is putting me to sleep... Okay, I admit I like to watch Martha occasionally when she has interesting people on the show and kasey loves the crafts stuff.

The El Rey Del Mundo started off tasting really full bodied but by the time I hit the half way point, or the body, I am thinking that this cigar is actually mildly medium or mild to medium in nature. Its not airy or "Mild" in the terms of lack of flavor but its just really smooth and still there is tons of flavor. It doesn't bite my tounge like bad tobacco does.. It simply glides smoothly over my tongue.

I just can't stop admiring the construction of this cigar for some reason. Its so fat and so consistant! I keep holding it up to my compact flourescent lamp to get a good clear view of it. The wrapper color and surface is awesome. Its perfectly firm yet not too hard.
This cigar lived up to my fullest expectations and actually performed much better than I expected it to. The nuttiness that I experience as I exhale it through my nose is just so pleasurable. Other cigar manufactuers and tobacco blenders should take note of the excellence that is the El Rey Del Mundo.

This Super Bomb massive attack that I recieved had many cigars that I've been longing to try for a long time and several smokes that I've needed to Retry to give them a fair chance and jurisdiction. I have half of the ERDM left and I simply want to enjoy it so I am going to do so and end this review now... I'm not sure if I want to post all of my reviews in the review forums or if I should post them in the Thread I started regarding the bombings. I suppose I'll just post it in the review forum and link it to the original thread unless I am suggested otherwise.

To those of you who have not yet had the pleasure of smoking an El Rey Del Mundo cigar, I suggest that you give them a shot. If you like good wholesome cigars that taste like cigars should taste, then I recommend this one. If you like the pure and true Tobacco flavor of Padron, Punch, HDM, and Partagas products then I recommend you add this one to your list! I've always considered Padron cigars (The lower end, not the awesome PA's.) to be the Epidomy of a cigar.. I call it a Man's Cigar and find that it would be perfect to smoke with your father or son while out fishing from a boat... When I lit up my first Padron X000, that is the first vision that popped in my mind.

I had to leave work early today because my medication (really strong antibiotics) started making me extremely nauseous and I was on the verge of vomitting. My condition hasn't improved much but for being able to actually smoke a cigar while feeling like this says something about how smooth the cigar is. A bad cigar would no doubt only increase my stomach ache and this one is actually making it go away.

Despite that I was planning on ending the review I just cannot shutup about this cigar.. The flavor is only increasing and improving as I slowly approach the crown.. I find some NC to come close to the either the quality or the taste of a Havana. The Montecristo afrique is the number one cuban taste-a-like that I've ever encountered and a few of you where nice enough to send some to me! (Thanks so much, that small size one is freaking awesome!!! i just LOVE small cigars *at the right time, they are so perfect*) The next would probably be the CAO Criollo as far as taste and quality goes. This ERDM is up there on my list now as far as quality goes.

Towards the end of the smoke the nuttiness that I love so much is still there but a, what I call, horse/saddle flavor is starting to peak its head out. This Horse flavor is what most people call Leather, I find it to taste more like how a horse smells.. Not horse shit!!! but the smell you experience when your out in the woods horse back riding. Which is an EXCELLENT time to smoke a cigar.. My in-laws (who seem to have disowned me) have allowed me to go horseback riding with them a few times with them and their horses and smoking a stogie during this exerience was VERY memoriable.

So I'm going to try hard to stop reviewing this cigar now because there is not much left of it. It's a great cigar. The oppurtunity to try a cigar for the first time that you've been wanting to try for awhile is a great experience! Sometimes, nothing beats the first time... however, while practicing moderation, their are some great cigars out there that prove to be consistantly awesome each time one is enjoyed.

Thank you for taking time to read my rambling review. Its a little chaotic because I am still in COMPLETE SHOCK about the whole bombing experience. If you don't know about it and how freaking amazing my brothers and sisters of the leaf are here, then check out my thread appropriately titled: "Speachless, Confused, overwhelmed to tears!" http://www.clubstogie.com/vb/showthr...d=1#post191471 .

I can't wait to post more reviews of as many of these smokes as possible!!

Re: Do you believe in love at the first puff? An ERDM Love Story.

Still havent finished the thing yet. Very slow burning, very clean pure smooth smoke. I love it! Long lasting Pleasure!

edit: Pnoon, thanks for the kind words, I'm glad that someone can still find my reviews readable.. they may not be as entertaining as they use to be but i'm slowly making my way back to where I was by simply trying to write reviews. I sure do put some wear and tear on my keyboard, and i'm always droppin ash on it while writing.. When I smoke a cigar that I absolutely love, there is no way that I can wait to write the review. I write it real time, while smoking.. I get so excited, I just want to tell the world about the wonders of the cigar, regardless if everyone already knows or not.. I hope that my reviews occasionally will lead some to finding a cigar that they too can appreciate.

Thanks for reading my review BTW.

I think you should make a new thread for each review - I like reading them. Great review as always, and I agreed/understood what you said about the DE Naturals Root, as I had the one you sent me for my nighttime treat last night.

Great review! I also love the ERDM line. I was going to torch a Punch tonight but after reading the review I'm going to ash an ERDM Robusto.

lol!!! Yeah I could see that Cliff notes for Psygardelics long arse reviews! heh.

Dave. glad you got around to smoking that Root.. Some people who hate infused/cured/flavored cigars actually like those root smokes, some don't.. I personally can enjoy them on occasion but I definately have to be in the mood for it now.

If I wouldn't have discovered club stogie I would probably never had discovered that regular cigars can have just as much, if not MORE, depth and flavor than 'flavored' cigars do..

Haven't had one in a while, but I remember being hooked on some of those Villazon smokes. Used to enjoy those nat Flor de Llanezas and those tissue wrapped oscuros.

Re: Do you believe in love at the first puff? An ERDM Love Story.

Hello all. New poster here. Did I get a bad box? I bought my first box of the Robusto with Oscuro wrapper last week to try, and so far, I'm disappointed. They don't seem to have much flavor, and they don't burn all that well. They just want to burn down the center and needs to be re-lit often. I've only smoked three, so I'll give it more time, but gosh, I thought they'd be better. I've smoked enough cigars to know that they're never perfect 100% of the time, so I won't pass judgment until all 20 are gone. Maybe another box too. What do you think? Bad batch? Oh, this is a terrific forum!

Larry...smoking for ten years and still not finished.

I have tried two ERDM's from my local B&M, and your review has hit them on the head. I enjoyed both of them very much, and will smoke them again.

Funny you should post this today. I picked up one today just because it looked interesting. Nice review. I am going to have to move this one up the list on what to smoke next. Thanks
