Noob Adoption Reviews (April '08)

Here are the smokes Reggie sent me this month (thanks again!):

I started with the Cabaiguan.

It starts off very woody, with some pepper notes and a great draw. The one thing I notice is there is no bite. Usually I don't like full strength cigars because of the "bite" but this cigar had strong flavors but still smooth. At one point it almost went out and I really had to puff on it to get it going, still no bite! Midway some toasty flavors came through. Even though I was smoking outside in the wind the burn remained pretty even. Around the end some leathery flavors came through with the pepper.

Overall I liked the cigar, I would give it an 8.5. A med-full flavored cigar yet smooth. I haven't tried any Tatuajes yet, but after this cigar I will be trying some soon.

Re: Noob Adoption Reviews (April '08)

I smoked 2 cigars the last few days the first being the Ashton Heritage.

Started off toasty and nutty with a bit of spice. Very nice aroma. Picked up some sweetness on the finish in the 2nd. Picked up strength in the 3rd with some spice but maintained the slightly sweet finish. Good burn and draw throughout.

I give it an 8.5/10.

Today's smoke was the Camacho Corojo.

Started off very woody with some leather flavors. A strong cigar but not overpowering. The 2nd was mostly leather with some pepper on the finish. Near the end a cedary flavor came through (different from the woody flavors in the beginning) and some spice, not pepper but a cinnamon like.
It was strange because usually the end of a cigar for me is the strongest but with this one it was more near the middle. Draw was good, burn was slightly uneven, needed one touch up but not too bad.

I am starting to like the Camacho line. I've enjoyed both the 1962 and the Triple Maduro.

I give this a 9/10. A strong cigar with balanced flavors. I smoked it after dinner but I probably wouldn't try it on an empty stomach.

Hopefully I will be smoking the Virtuoso tomorrow. I'm having back surgery on Tuesday and it might be my last cigar for a few days. Also that Partagas looks special, my cousin is getting married on the 26th so hopefully I will be smoking it then.

Thanks for reading!

I got a chance to smoke the Carlos Torano Virtuoso today.

At the beginning there were mostly earth flavors with some coffee as well. A little more into it, it picked up some nutty flavors with some sweetness. The flavors stayed pretty much the same until the ending. The final 3rd had a distinct cashew taste with some earthiness. Burn was ok, a little uneven but it usually fixed itself.

An enjoyable cigar, I give it an 8.5/10.

Great reviews. I really enjoy seeing what my fellow "noobs" are smoking and what they like or dislike. I enjoyed the Carlos Torano that Mark sent me as well.

I did smoke it a while ago, and haven't been on the computer much. I totally forgot about it, luckily I did take some notes so here we go.

First off I really liked the packaging with the glass tube and the 1997 chain thing, it looks very nice. It opened with a kind of tight draw, however it had some rich coffee flavor. I really enjoyed it. The cigar was tightly packed, lots of tobacco but this may have contributed to the tight draw. Also I noticed the cigar was dryer than most. A crack developed but the wrapper did not unravel. The midpoint of the cigar had some leathery flavors and what I would describe as burnt sugar. The end had some charcoal notes with a bit of harshness to it.

Overall I would give it an 8.7/10. The beginning was really great but the end kind of let me down. It also had a little crack in the wrapper, but it was probably my fault. I would try it again, however I would open the tube first, so it might not be so dry.

Reggie, thanks again for the cigars this month I enjoyed them!
