Gurkha 1887 Expedition Review

Just a quick one here.

I have stayed out of the whole Gurkha vs. Anti-Gurkha discussions since I had never had one before.

I smoked my first ever late last night after an evening of moving crap into my new house, the 1887 Expedition in the Robusto size (thanks BillK) and I liked it a lot.

I should preface this by saying I generally like Connecticut wrappers and I think that is mostly due to knowing what I am in for. I'm not expecting to have my socks knocked off with flavor and strength so I wouldn't put down one for lacking in the those departments. But when I want a mellow smoke to relax with that is what I go for.

I have to admit this was one of my favorite connies, I would put it right up there with the RP Connecticut's and at only $10 more a box the price argument is a moot one for me. Actually it evens out since there are 20 in the RP box and 24 in the Gurkha box.

Construction was excellent, the packaging (the band and cedar sleeve) are quite impressive, the draw was very, very good and the taste was great. It got a bit harsh at the end but I would chalk that up to me being in a hurry to get to bed since I was pretty tired.

I am looking forward to trying some of the other Vitolas from Gurkha that I have sitting in the cooler.

I'm 2 into a 5'er of those myself and my results are the same as yours. I concur. Nice review.

If you are patient you can get a 5 pack on the devil site for 7 or 9 bucks

At that price they are excellent smokes. I have about 20 or so sitting in waiting.

Ive had probably 1 or 2 cigars from half of gurkhas line, and this is one of my favorites. i just got a box of these for 54 bucks (a steal). they are a good quality smoke, thanks for the review

Thamks for the review. I saw that CI has marked them as close outs and thought that it must mean they were just another Gurkha so so. Now I will have to try some.

I bought a box of these a few years ago and let me say, even though they're mild to start with, they age quite well. Mmmmmm.....
