RP Edge Sumatra Torpedo (300th post smoke) Review

As this is my 300th post, I figured I would treat myself to a good smoke, an RP Edge Sumatra Torpedo (6x52).

Man oh man, was this a good smoke.
Pre-light: A little airy, but good flavor.
Construction: Wonderful Ash held on for more than the first third of the smoke.
Attachment 18494
1st Third: Wrapper and flavor was silky with hints of nutmeg/cinamon? (something sweet yet very subtle spice). Kept waiting for this smoke to kick my rear, but the first third did not.
Attachment 18496
2nd Third: Started to have some kick to this stick. Still the sweet nutmeg/cinamon mix yet it became very strong. Starting to feel the effects. Love this cigar!
Attachment 18497
3rd: Very strong now. Feel high almost. Heavy on the nicotine. Drank a Yeungling with this smoke, but one beer is not enough to make me feel this way (it's definitely the cigar).

Overall: This is a wonderful, powerful smoke. Not very complex, but full on flavor and strength. Thanks Rocky Patel for making this wonderful smoke!!! It's a shame that Rocky has discontinued the Edge Sumatra (Still other versions of The Edge, but no Sumatra).

Nice review. This is my favorite smoke of 2007. I set out to collect as many as I could after my first smoke. I have about 40 resting right now and will be very sad when they are gone.If anyone has any for sale, please PM me immediately.

Great review & pics!
I too enjoy this smoke quite a bit... definitely a shame Rocky can't get his hands on more of the wrapper so he could continue with the line.

Anyone know how this compares to the non-Sumatra RP Edge?

Oh, he's got the wrapper, he's just getting quite a bit more dough by only putting it on the decade now.

BTW, this is my favorite Edge by far. Good stuff.

I did not care for the Edge. It was okay, but nothing special. I have not had the Sumatra, but I'm curious now...

My notes on the Edge: "Not much to say, just a generic, one dementional version of the Olde World Reserve. Tasted noticeably cheap, almost more acidic that most cheaper maduros..."

I prefer the Sumatra to the Corojo, but in fairness I have not had a well aged Corojo (and I do have a few stashed away for testing next year). Sometimes that wrapper needs a lot of time to show its stuff.

As to the Maduro, I really enjoy the Toro the most and would rate it about even with the Sumatra--both great smokes imho.

I've never had the corojo. I have had both the sumatra and the maduro. The sumatara wins in my opinion hands down. Couldn't finish the maduro as it was too much for me.

Re: RP Edge Sumatra Torpedo (300th post smoke)

I have six of these left and am sorry I did not find out about them sooner. Our local B&M had two or three coffins of these and I really did not discover them until towards the end.

Re: RP Edge Sumatra Torpedo (300th post smoke)

Thanks for the review and pix andrew. I went over to my local B&M not to long back for a Thursday sit down with some of the locals and to enjoy a smoke. I too at the time had heard great reviews on this stick. Purchased one and gave it a good toasting. I'm sorry to say that it didn't ring any bells or whistles for me, fairly tasteless, and the draw was like trying to suck a golf ball threw a garden hose. However, for those of you looking to collect some of these RP "not gonna be made anymore" smokes, you may want to give Zak a call at "Smoke Zone" in Stevensons Ranch. His t/ph# is 661-284-1298. He just may have a good handfull or 2 of these still available...
