This will be my second cigar review at CS. If my first one was on a superb cigar, this one goes 180 degrees, IMO.
The cigar reviewed was a Drew Estate Kahlu'a, in what I guess was a toro shape, at approx 5 1/4" and maybe a 48 ring. On the outside, the stick looked good. When I pulled the cello off and took a whiff, I caught the chocolate scent, but it wasn't a good smell , and I began to wonder if I'd screwed up. The cut went well, and it lit easily, but that was the last good thing about this stick. I put it in my mouth, and the taste of the wrapper was indescribably bad. I almost tossed it then, but regarded it my duty to try and smoke the thing, in order to be able to give a good accounting here. My mistake...The Kahlu'a flavor was evident from the first draw, and it overpowered any flavor the tobacco may (or may not) have possessed. I really tried to stay with this cigar, but I gave up after about 1" and laid it to rest in our garden (hope it doesn't hurt the veggies). In its defense, it did have a good draw, but it was the cigar's only redeeming characteristic. The flavor was horrible, and I only hope I can get this taste out of my mouth. I had been wondering what flavored cigars, like the Drew line, would be like. My local B&M carries some Drew stuff, including the Kahlu'a line. I stopped in today to pick up some more AVO 787's and Oliva Series V singles, and decided on a whim to buy one of these and give it a try. I'll usually try about anything once, whether food, drink, activity, or cigar. This may have cured that sense of adventure for a while. Having said that, I can't in good conscience hold this against Brent, my B&M guy; when he saw me pick the stick up, he raised an eyebrow and said something about being a glutton for punishment, so I was fairly warned. And so I now warn the reader here. All that said, I do not post the above to make light of, or ridicule those that like this stick OR flavored cigars; smoke what ya like and like what ya smoke. I also offer this caveat: curiosity killed the cat ![]() ![]() . I just lit up a JFR in attempt to get the taste out of my mouth. My rating: 0.0004 out of 10 (0.004 for the decent draw). Thank you for reading, Joe |

Re: Drew Estate Kahlu'a
I don't mind these much if they've sat for a while. The other Drew's I can't say many nice things about them. Good review though, now hit that Series V and everything will be all better.

Re: Drew Estate Kahlu'a
Bax,
I'd try letting one age, but the B&M has had this box for a LONG time already .I concur on the Series V. He got them in a couple of weeks ago, finally, and I tried one right away. Loved it. |

Re: Drew Estate Kahlu'a
May not be the best, but these sticks helped push me down the slope.
