Re: Hoyo De Monterey Dark Sumatra

I too like these, but I just had a Media Noche that had been sitting in my humi for close to 2 years and found it had lost some of its original rich taste. Not sure if that's usually the case and I'm hoping the other couple I have will be better. But they are lovely when the coffee/cocoa is prominent.

One of favorites. I plan on making this a 'go-to' cigar as soon as I find a great deal on boxes. Haven't had a bad one yet.

Great cigar! Nice in the morning or afternoon. Could use a bit more spice but awesome taste and very creamy.

Re: Hoyo De Monterey Dark Sumatra

I just had the espresso of this line, and while it was great construction and burn wise, overall was not as good as I had hoped.
I smoked it straight OTT and the flavor, while good, was just not prominent enough to make me really take notice. I got mostly spice and wood from the smoke, the draw was a little tight, so there wasnt a great deal of smoke anyway. I plan on letting the rest of the sampler sit for a couple of months and trying again.

I've got two of these sitting in the cooler. They are high on the list of next to try.

Re: Hoyo De Monterey Dark Sumatra

I just had the ebano of this line and really enjoyed it. It started out to be too subtle in flavor for me, though what I was geting was really good and improved drastically from about the halfway mark on. Really nice coffee/smokey/chocolaty flavor and the volume of smoke improved as the cigar burned too.

I am thinking the espresso that I tried was just too short for the flavors to develop, also the ebano at 6x44 had a much greater wrapper/filler ratio, and was, I think more flavorful for that reason.

Jrs has hdm sumatra samplers for 8$ now. Think I may order another.

Thanks for the review beau. Enjoy the photo arrangement too. This is a nice blend from HDM and the Espresso is a nice size to try as well...

Re: Hoyo De Monterey Dark Sumatra

i enjoy this cigar. I picked my first one up a while ago after hearing it reviewed on the Blowin' Smoke podcast. I enjoyed it greatly. But i did have one for a while after that until recently. I had a craving for one and smoked one while watching the super bowl at one of my favorite b&m's (Blew Smoke). When I enjoy these cigars I partake in some root beer to accompany it. Great combination. The coffee and cocoa tastes work great in unison with the beverage. Long ashes to you all :-)
