Noob Adoption Reviews (May '08)

This month I recieved the following cigars from Reggie:

Fonseca Cubano Limitada
Tatuaje Series P
Joya De Nicaragua Series C
Puros Indios Viejo
Partagas Cifuentes Winter Blend
(Pics soon)

Yesterday, I went to the racetrack and I brought along the Partagas Cifuentes Winter Blend.

The cigar starts with smooth coffee flavors, but mild bodied. The draw is excellent, but the burn starts to get uneven a little bit in. It was a bit windy at the track but the burn was bad the whole way. It went out a couple of times and it seemed that just one side of the cigar just did not want to burn. For me the flavor did not change much, a mild coffee taste and creamy.

I give this cigar a 7.5/10. I really did enjoy the flavor, mild but still tasty. However, the burn was terrible. I've had problems out side before, so I don't know if it was all the cigars fault, but it was pretty bad. I would try it again though, because I enjoyed the flavor.

Sorry about the burn. Hope the rest are better.

The next cigar I smoked was the Tatuaje Series P.

It starts off with a mostly nutty flavor, a little woody as well. There was a little bit of spice on the finish. The draw was very good, burn was decent as well, I was smoking outside but the burn stayed good the whole way. The 2nd part of the cigar was mostly woody, the spice stayed on the finish. The last was more spicy and it went out by itself with about an inch and a half left.

Overall I enjoyed this cigar, I give it an 8/10. It had a decent flavor and good construction.

Series P... the total value of the Tatuaje line. Reminds me that I need to pick up a box of these in the P1 line.

Keep up the reviews!

Re: Noob Adoption Reviews (May '08)

For some reason I can't edit my first post, so here is this months pic:

Next up for a review is the Joya De Nicaragua Series C.

It was a little tough to get the cigar going, but once it did the beginning had a mild woody taste to it with a little spice on the finish. The first 3rd was very mild. The 2nd third had some more pepper flavors come through but was a bit harsh at times. The last 3rd was my favorite part, which is unusual. The cigar had the most flavor here, woody and pepper flavors. The draw was good throughout except the very beginning, and the burn was fine.

Overall I give this a 7.5/10. Sometimes I prefer milder cigars but the beginning of this one didn't have a lot of flavor. However, I did enjoy the end of this cigar.

Re: Noob Adoption Reviews (May '08)

Today I smoked the Fonseca Cubano Limitada.

The beginning of the cigar was very nutty in flavor, with a bit of sweetness on the finish. Draw was excellent with a lot of smoke. At first one side of the cigar was not burning well, but I figured I didn't light it well so I corrected it. The cigar developed more toasty flavors but the sweetness was still there, although a little less. I continued to have some burn problems, that one side still did not want to burn. The aroma reminded me a little of ground coffee, which was a little strange because I didn't pick up this taste from the cigar. The cigar finished the same, nutty and toasty flavors and it didn't get harsh.

I give this a 8.7/10. A solid mild-medium cigar with good flavor, but the burn hurt the score.

8/10 even with burn issues is pretty good. I have to tell you I bought two of what I sent you. One for you and one for me, but have not had the chance to sample them yet. I should get to them soon though. I hope you are logging these in the journal.

Yeah I really enjoyed the flavor on the Fonseca, if not for the burn it would have been 9+. And I have been using the journal and its awesome!

Re: Noob Adoption Reviews (May '08)

The last smoke of the month was the Puros Indios Viejo.

I clipped the cap and when I did part of the wrapper came with it. I wet it and luckily it stayed in place. It started nutty with some sweetness as well. A little bit in it picked up some coffee flavors as well. Midway the coffee was still there along with some earthiness, however the sweetness was gone. Finished with the earthy and coffee flavors, some pepper with it as well.

Overall I give this an 8/10, a solid cigar, no construction problems and a decent taste.

Thanks for reading.
