Perdomo Estate Seleccion 1991 ESV - Election Day Cigar

Election day cigar: Perdomo Estate Seleccion ESV 1991 Connecticut Shade, Aristocratica.

I took off early from work to vote. As I reached the church, I nodded to the sheriff candidate that I was voting for as he stood outside of the voting precinct looking to convert at least one more soul. I smiled at him …. “you’ve got one more vote coming” I told him. I entered, spread my vote around and came home to enjoy this Perdomo ESV 91.

I had a couple of the smaller sizes in this line recently and liked them. This is the largest, a massive 7”x54. The CT shade wrapper is just gorgeous … perfect symmetry, nice looking cap, no veins to speak of. The cello is adorned with gold Ps, making them quite striking in the box.

I decided to pair this smoke with one of Dale’s (DGen) homebrews … the Bombay bomber, a double IPA. The beer smelled and tasted great, a perfect companion to a good cigar.

The cigar lit easily and started burning straight. The initial taste was mild … very mild. I had a Macanudo Gold recently and it had the same smooth but mild character. Hmmm …. I hadn’t noticed that in the others although I did find them smooth and elegant.

It took 2 inches into the cigar before I started enjoying the flavors. By this time the burn got slightly uneven, but not enough to worry about. Body is still light and flavors pretty mild …. surprising but supposedly the blend contains Nicaraguan filler from 1991.

Three inches into the smoke and the flavor hasn’t picked up much yet, still a lot milder than I like. With an inch left it was slightly better, still smooth, but flavors were pretty sparce. The wrapper is holding up really well, the punch hole is almost perfect, no loosening at all.

I will say that compared to the 5”x44 imperio that I smoked a couple of (in this line) last week, this cigar seems bland and plain Jane in comparison. I didn’t need to correct the burn on the way down, but the cigar proved to be more mild than I like. Dale’s beer helped thought the hour plus that it took for me to smoke this cigar, and was sweet enough to really go well with a cigar.

I give Dale’s beer a solid A and the cigar a B-/C+ (very nice job Dale). This Aristocratica is really too mild to get me excited and did not impress me the way the big Ashton VSG, La Aurora 100 anos or Don Lino Africa cigars did on first smoke. This cigar does not really have enough character to give anything but a mildly recommended rating, but realize that this is a mild tasting smoke. The lukewarm rating actually matches my opinions of the candidates I voted for today, so perhaps it fits the moniker “Election Day Cigar” quite well.

Great review with great pics Seangar. I have yet to smoke a Perdomo that really gives me that "wow" factor. Maybe it's me?

The manager at my local shop gifted me this cigar in a smaller size. I am eager to try it out.

Woo Hoo! My beer got an A!

If only the same could be said about my art history mid-term...

I'm really glad you liked the beer, Sean.

Awesome effects. Great review.

Maybe the cigar was in a political mode today and just swung the wrong way on ya !
