Ghurka Shaggy Review

I read these reviews very often and I take alot from them. So, in an effort to give back any much as I take, here is my take on the Ghurka Shaggy.

This stick was given to me by a good friend. I let it sit in my humi for some time, and I recently felt the urge to light 'er up. This is a gorgeous looking stoggie, with a rich looking wrapper and sweet looking band. From the get go I knew I was in for a treat. It had a very pleasant smell pre-lite, and a funky looking, uncut footing. Contruction appeared to be very good, and it felt heavy in my hand.

The Shaggy lit easily and burned very evenly. I had great taste immediately and was consistent. It tasted woody/nutty, with a slight peppery taste. Very medium bodied from light up.

The draw was perfect, and was effortless, but not loose. The grey ash was firm and it burned like a good stoggie should. The taste stayed VERY consitent, and remained very tasty. There were all kinds of thoughts going through my mind as I savored the taste. There was a leathery aroma in the smoke, ever so slight.

The shaggy was a very slow smoke, for what I am used to. It may have been a little on the moist side. As I approached the end, it very suprisingly held its flavor, intesifiying just a smidge. I smoked this baby to the nub, and enjoyed it to the very end.

I actually enjoyed this smoke so much, I ordered a box! In addition to the Ghurka Master Select, this is another Ghurka stick that has made me a believer. I hope this review helps those who have never tried the Shaggy, just as past posts have helped me!

P.S.: I know there have been other reviews of the same stick, but they are a little old, and I wanted to share my experience.

Total smoking time: 71 minutes

RATINGS:

Build/constuction: 9/10
Appearance: 9/10
Taste: 8/10
Value: 7/10
Smoking experience: 10/10
OVERALL: 8.6/10

Nice review Bruzee. I appreciate Gurkha Shaggies myself.

I agree with your 7/10 rating for price/value. At my local spot the torpedos that i prefer are $10.50. I did win a 5er on CBid for 31 bucks, but they are toros.

I'm not complaining though, 6 bucks a piece is a pretty good deal.

Excellent review of one of my favorites! I found many of the same attributes you that you did. I am constantly amazed at the ease of lighting and then the even burn on these.

I'm glad you liked it. Personally, I don't understand the shaggy cigars. The wrapper is what gives the cigar a lot of it's flavor, so why would you want to smoke part of the cigar without it?
I'm happy that you enjoyed it, and good review.

I agree with you it is one of the only Gurkha's I like as well. The one I smoked had a nice full taste. I got a slightly woody flavor. All in all I feel it is a cigar many should pick up and give it a smoke.

Happy Smokes

Good review. I have been thinking about picking up a few of these, but haven't gotten around to it.

Thanks for sharing.

The average price, per stick, after my box order was $4.75! They go for $11.50 at the closest B&M. Not too bad for a great smoke....

One of the few Ghurka cigars I like. I'm surprised you didn't mention anything about it being creamy, but it's nice to see another enjoy it.

Re: Ghurka Shaggy

I smoked one of these at a Gurkha event at a local B&M, Mine (as well as a few of the people with me) had really bad burn issues and the wrappers decided to split and fall off. This was most likely due to the way there were stored, otherwise I really enjoyed the cigar, I'll have to pick one up and let it sit for while under my control Thanks for the review!

Re: Ghurka Shaggy

You summed up my experience exactly. I didn't expect much from this shaggy gimmick but it was a great, long-lasting tasty cigar. I finished it with butnt fingers.

Huh... For me it wasn't above average creamy, so I didn't mention it. It was definately smooth though... BTW, it seems as though alot of gorillas around here have had poor experiences with some of the other Ghurka's. So far, I haven't shared that opinion...yet.... I'm kinda curious, and gonna be testing as many as I can get my hands on to see if my opinion changes any.
