Hoyo De Monterrey Excalibur 1066 Dark Knight Review

Sat down on the back porch with my wife last night. I had a Hoyo Excalibur 1066 Dark Knight and I bought my wife a Drew Estate Java corona. My wife is not a smoker but she really liked the Java, she smoked it down to a nub, and chewed the crap out of it..lol.

Any way, the Dark Knight is a very nice sized cigar. It is a dark brown in color with some small veins. The pre light aroma was very nice, I could smell cocoa. Prelight draw tasted of cocoa and nuts. This cigar gave TONS of smoke, I smoked this one about 6 hours after picking it up from my local B&M. It had some burn inconsistencies but I attribute that to smoking it so soon. Very nice ash. Cigar started with cocoa and dark coffee, in the 2nd third it gained some body and added some earthy flavor. The final third got a slight ligero spice and hints of nuts but kept the nice coffee and cocoa flavor.

I really liked this cigar, in fact it had the most prominent cocoa flavor I have ever tasted in a cigar....it made me think it might not be natural flavor??? Overall a very good cigar.

Thanks, Good review. I really like that stick when it is not plugged. I have found that about 2/3 the ones I have had were a pain to smoke, but the other 1/3 are great.

I have baught them at the B&M, purchased them online, and taken them out of my humi. I dont think it has to do with the RH, IMHO.
I do remember one of the bad ones did come from my B&M, i could not smoke it past the first third and I even used a tool to "open" it up a bit.

To answer the question, as of this morning it was a perfect 66/68

Sir, if you enjoy the exczalibur series, try the dark sumatra series (if you already haven't) those are very tasty as well!

Nice review. They sound great, I see these all the time at my B&M but never grab one. This weekend I'll have to change that!

Re: Hoyo De Monterrey Excalibur 1066 Dark Knight

Excalibers have been my good old standby for years. I always have a few in my humidor. It is a great smooth creamy smoke with (I agree with Kg) cocoa and nut. They do tend to be rolled a little tight and canoe more than higher priced sticks but I have found that them to be consistant good smoke. It is the stick I suggest newbies that want to try a maduro. Bottom line, great smoke in its price range.

PS- AMEN!! about the dark Sumatra
