Noob Adoption Reviews (June '08)

I got Reggie's cigars yesterday. He sent the following:

Davidoff Millennium Robusto Tubo
Honduran Plantations
Maravilloso Cetro
J. Fuego Natural Robusto

Today I smoked the Honduran Plantations.

From the beginning I got mostly cedar flavors with some sweetness as well. The draw was a little tight but I was still able to get a good amount of smoke. The flavor did not change much throughout the smoke, however the draw did improve. Had a few burn problems I had to touch-up but not too bad. When it came time to take the band off, it was on pretty tight and as I took it off some wrapper came with it and cracked a bit. I smoked it to about that part where the wrapper cracked.

Overall I give this cigar a 7.5/10. A one-dimensional but enjoyable flavor, but the construction and band problem hurt the score.

That is my budget smoke. Decent flavor for a buck a smoke.

Next up is the J. Fuego Natural Robusto.

I cut the cap and noticed the tobacco was tightly packed. The draw started tight but I was able to get rich nutty flavors with some sweet spice. I really liked the taste, but the finish was a little off. Just tasted a little weird, but I couldn't put my finger on it. As the cigar went on the nutty flavors stayed but the sweetness slowly faded and went away near the last 3rd.

Overall I give this cigar a 9/10. It did have a tight draw and the finish was a little off, but the flavor was still awesome. I looked it up and saw that it had a Criollo wrapper. I also enjoyed the CAO Criollo that Reggie sent me before, so I'll be looking to pick up some other cigars with the Criollo as well.

Those J. Fuegos are pretty darn tasty if you ask me. I like both the Natural and the Corojo. Nice reviews by the way.

Re: Noob Adoption Reviews (June '08)

Earlier today I smoked the Davidoff Millennium Robusto.

I cut the cap and it looked to be well rolled, maybe a little tightly packed. Lit up and the draw was perfect. First puffs were spicy but sweet as well, a classic sun grown taste. A little harsh at times in the beginning but did smooth out in the middle. The middle had lots of that sweet/spicy sungrown taste with a little leather and coffee at times on the short finish. This cigar had lots of white smoke, draw was excellent. Burn was uneven at times but always corrected itself.

Overall this cigar gets a 9/10. It would be a 9.5 if not for the harshness at times. Definitely more full-bodied compared to the other Davidoffs I've tried, but with lots of good flavor. I did have the Petit Corona version of this cigar, and I think I liked it a little better but this still was a very good smoke.

Re: Noob Adoption Reviews (June '08)

Yesterday I smoked the last of this months NCs, the Maravilloso Cetro.

Started off mostly woody with some coffee notes. Firm draw but still decent amount of smoke. After a few puffs some creamy sweetness came through, very nice. Didn't change much until the very end, until the sweetness went away and pepper tastes took over.

Overall this cigar is a 9/10. A solid cigar with some good mild-medium flavor. I really enjoyed this one.

My other go to budget smoke. You can get a bundle for under 30. If you want more, just let me know. I may go light one up just for you.
